Default Exceed, Redcat, and HPI??

I posted this to the Rookie zone also. Maybe the Vets could be of some help. I know some people believe that exceed and redcat are crap but, I'm really new to the whole RC scene and before I drop to much money on something that I don't even know if I will like I'll go with the cheap ones. Now, with that being saide my question is are parts interchangable with the driftstar, lightening, and sprint models? Mainly the upgrades. Though I might buy crap as you guys call it, I might really enjoy it and want to upgrade and get further into it.
