Unfortunately, it may take that long.

Only issue is that the team drivers getting special software versions, unless it is loaded by Roar Race Management and teched or impounded. In that case, it would be perfect. But the impounding would be a PITA.

NOT an issue!!

As I mentioned before, the class that would run this would be a ZERO support class. Meaning= stock would be for the true privateers out there.

PRO stock can do what ever they want boostwise and have partial support from the teams.

It would then be up to the teams to regulate who runs what classes (as it should be) and the team would be accountable for any cheating.. if the team has a special software that somehow makes it on the track in the stock class- then the teams top qualifying driver gets a ding...

edit again== the only need for tech would be at the winners circle- or in the event of a "contesting" opponent. Or better yet- random testing.

This will not be an issue, as stated by Jimmy (Tekin Prez). There's nothing to improve, hence no need for Team Drivers to test anything the general public will not have access to.

Mind you, we're still talking about Blinky Mode only.

Maybe it's time to go back to basics. When I started racing in 1980 there were two classes, Stock and Modified. It was simple and worked well.

Up until the brushless era 27T brushed motors were stock, and everything else was modified. Let's just name the 17.5 motor the new Stock.

Here is a simple idea.

Sportsman - 17.5, Non-Timed ESC, Non-Sponsored Driver
Stock - 17.5, Open ESC, Open to all Drivers
Modified - Open Motor, Open ESC, Open to all Drivers

Sportsman can be a perfect entry level class and if you want to move up to Stock, you don't have to buy new hardware.

I would hope that cheating to win a sportsman race would be too low for any manufacturer to stoop. The bad publicity from that would be very ugly.

I don't believe banning programmable ESC's or having to buy new ESC's will help the hobby/sport.

What about 17.5 blinky mode? Some "Pros'' wanna run "Super Blinky Mode". Pro's are sponsored by some speedo companies. You never know what they can get.

I'm all for blinky mode, i'm just saying it isnt perfect. If a newbie wants to get a budget speed controler, good for him! But if he wants to run a blinky mode speedy, then awesome!

That is about what I proposed, in a nutshell= Except that, when you start throwing around class names like "sportsman"= it becomes less appealing.

Calling it stock and Pro stock, is a bit different. (6 of one, half dozen of the other, I know= but never the less)

at least then, one would have no gripes with entering "stock".

Sound OK. I would still consider a 13.5 open speed control for classes that use one cell.

At large events, you have to offer 4 sedan classes to do it right. I know it seems excessive, but that's what it takes to please everybody. A majority of sedan racers don't want to travel to only run one class, and forcing SS racers into modified doesn't work. Offering it to them as a 3rd option, however, will probably increase mod entries.

non-sponsored only
Amateur (21.5 unboost)

open to everybody
Stock (17.5 unboost)
Super Stock (13.5 unboost)
Modified

Boosting is neat, but it's unnecessarily complicated. We can achieve the same thing with 13.5 unboost, and it greatly simplifies everything.

Default Sedan

Up here in the Northwoods we have only one sedan class and we have seen some growth in the class this carpet season.

let 13.5 die already.

you can accomplish 13.5 unboosted laptimes with boosted 17.5

why make racers buy an additional motor.

13.5 unboosted is not enough of a step toward mod
