Default Xtreme Shoe contest

For thoes of you who read XRC and like I do (read from back to front) just before you come to the girl jumping rope you will get to a bunch of shoes. It would be odd to find shoes in any other RC mag but they seem right at home in Xtreme.

Anyway, what caught my eye was futureal's sandal (#5). Then I read about the contest. Hey, why not?

If you check the Aug. issue of Xtreme on page 205 you will see Shane abusing a plastic Lion and wearing the sandals. And the #7 running shoes seem to be the same ones Derek is wearing on the editorial page where he is supposed to be doing a cannonball into a pool. It looks more like a serious gas attack to me.

So there are two matchs, guess the rest and win big prizes

LOL - Nice Shane. I love the shootout article. I can't wait for next months belt cars. Can you give us a sneak peak what cars were reviewed?

I was thinking the Xray Factory Team kit, but in this month you said you only reviewed cars that were reviewed prior to 1 month before the shootout. I know you guys didn't review the Xray FT kit yet, so if you're using an xray, than it would be an Xray Freedom of Choice kit? I'm curious

John

The Factory Kit was used. It's hard to exclude a variation of the same chassis.

The cars are

Corally Assassin (mid motor kit)
Tamiya 415
XRAY FK
Schumacher Mi2
Losi XXXS G+ (no optional parts)

This month's belt shootout will be even better. I just finished polishing the last of the text today and it's being laid out as I type this. I added a few extras that we didn't have last month, and then next month when we do the head-to-head it will be even more comprehensive.

There are some things we did wrong in this one (notably I think we should have done all diff or all one-way or all spool) but it was a learning experience all the way around, and is already by far the best sedan comparison that, to my knowledge, has ever been done.

There's always things that could have been better. While it's hard to get all the cars the same, testing the kits how they come out of the box is the most logical. Since there are lots of things the "Pro" drivers do that most don't it's hard to say when. WE could ahve changed lots on all the cars, but in the end testing how the "kit" is offered is what I think is the fairest. We can change each car until the cows come home, but are we testing the cars or our tuning....

Anyway the odd shoe isn't mine!

Good job guys. Can't wait for the next two mags. It will be really fun to read. They're so many good cars on the market these days. Anyone of them is capable of winning any large event .

Are you guys going to have a nitro touring and monster truck challenge eventually?

I'd say it's a safe bet for eventually. For now we will wait a few months before the next one. Shootouts are a great read but if you do shootouts constantly, it kind of strains the rest of the content.

We'll be hitting the track next week for the final contest, between the TC3 and ????

And on the topic of shoes. All the emails I've gotten have been wrong. I though this one was easy, at least my shoe is the easy one

Tc3 is a good choice...if you want a proven belt car to do a comparison with try the XRAY T1 FK or the Losi XXX-S...since your only doing 2 cars...why not do both indoor and outdoor test?

Derek said they would be doing a comparison between the following cars:

Corally Assassin (mid motor kit)
Tamiya 415
XRAY FK
Schumacher Mi2
Losi XXXS G+ (no optional parts)

So there ya go, Xray and Losi are in it. Black Kat did make a good point. One car could be better on carpet vs asphalt. Maybe in the future you could have the best shaft drive car (TC3) and the best belt car (???) go head to head on carpet with foams too? That would be excelent to see for people here on the east coast where the winters are terrible and people live for carpet racing.

Black Kat: The point was not to just pit any two cars against each other... we did a total of 9, took the best from each group and went head to head.

Unfortunately there is no carpet track anywhere near here, so that pretty much rules out carpet testing. Asphalt is undoubtedly the most popular surface worldwide, so I think it's a good choice.

Maybe later this year we could stage a carpet test in conjunction with one of the bigger carpet races. We'll see!
