My oh my....

Its some high schooler....

a group at my school heard of the contest and we have been working together to build three cars for the competition. after about two days of constant talk, we decided on the car platforms, nitro, electric turbine, and compressed n2o. the nitro consists of two .70 thundertiger motors, a super rs4 chassis, and 2 speed tranny. the electric turbine will consist of a super rs4 chassis, one 12v electronic supercharging system from SLE of Greenville SC that turns out 18psi, pushed through a volvo turbine to the wheels. the compressed n2o car consists of a super rs4 chassis, two 3lb nitrous paintball tanks, fed through high pressure nossles into a single volvo turbine. the n2o car will produce about 500psi of pressure through the bottles. since i am the "captain" of our team that is of now nameless, my friends have asked me to relay their predictions of speed(and dont forget, we are students and know our mathematics). the predictions are as follows,
_nitro car-1:2 ratio to the rear. 120mph+ low center of gravity
_electric turbine car- 115mph+ depending on gearing
_n2o car-high velocity 130mph+ dont laugh, it just might win

All claims and not single pic that I can find of ANY of these super cars....

Sounds like even BIGGER BS now than it did before.

I did see some pics of a pretty cool turbine powered car by a different guy.

Well......officially electric has it....unless you want to count the high school kid who claims on a message board that he shattered it by over 10 mph.....seems like a reliable source. No pictures or anything.....just typed claims.....at least AE has it on paper.

was this like a road course or an oval?

It was done on the front straight at Irwindale speedway. It's a 1/2 mile oval. I saw an inverview with him and Torrance on Tech TV and they said they could have gone faster but they had to turn and go into turn one of the oval and weren't able to continue to accelerate.

The winner will be a very simple car. It will be a brushless electric pan car with a custom chassis and either LiPo or NiMh.

Engineers and engineering students have a nasty habit of getting too compicated and falling short of objectives. Thats why the head of R&D of every R/C company is a former racer and engineers work under them.

associated also had problem with tires comming apart... they couldnt keep the rubber or foam on the rim.. that was the biggest problem....

and i agree until it is properly documented and run twice with an average it isnt a real record.. they do the same thing with real car speed runs....

also associated didnt need a push to get there cars rolling.. there rated from start to stop..

i also find it hard to belive...

we went though this with ajg with his so called 78 mile per hour micro.. kind of a odd number to ball park in your head...

Well my micro went 68 mph not 78. But I got it to 70.0 mph. Also my tires have never come off the rims. They are store bought TRC foams. I have got them up to 96 mph (just holding it in the air) and they didn't even balloon.

foams don't baloon.... they just suddenly explode into pieces.

Actually, there was a 200 MPH tether car that I saw a video of a long time ago. You could probably find it in a search. I saw it on the RC CAR ACTION site in the video section. It was pretty cool.

my 414m did over 200mph, admittedly it was still in its box in the cago bay of an aircraft on its way from japan, will that still count anyway.
