A lot of guys in Minnesota have had very good luck with the LRP X-12 StockSpec 17.5 motors this season.

The Tekin is an excellent esc in spec mode, as is the Mamba and LRP. One thing to remember about the Novak speed controllers is they don't have very good brakes. So if your track is tight and you need to drive with brakes you might wanna go for one of the other 3 If it's sort of long and flowing then the Novak would be fine and would cost you half of what one of the others would cost. As far as the motors go pretty much any of the manufacturers have an A-Main capable capable motor.

I'm happy with my Tekin RS.

I've been told there are smoother speedos, but there are so many users of the RS, it is hard to beat for resources.

It has been great in stock and superstock for me.

I only have used the Ballistic for stock 17.5, the duo3 may be a better motor, runs cooler.

if your stock class allows timing, get the tekin or you will not be competitive.
the lrp x-12 17.5 has been great to me also.

You can get a HobbyWing Combo with an Xtreme Stock, 17.5BL, and the programmer box for $180ish. HobbyWing COMBO-XS5A

Then you can program for timing, or non timing.

if thats the case.....it depends on brand of choice

Tekin RS...$150ish....able to use in almost any type of racing other than VTA
Novak Havok/GTB/GTB 2....$100ish....almost bullet proof..set it and forget it

Novak 17.5 Ballastic is the best motor(imo), simply cause if you are getting used to on-road gearing....if you burn it up, the entire motor is re-buildable...most of the time its the stator which is around $30 bucks...alot cheaper than $70-$100 for a new motor....and they are just as fast as any on the market...trust me on that...

good luck

Pay the extra money to get a flash upgradable ESC. It will save you from buying a second ESC down the road. Its worth the extra $$ upfront.
