Right, though some of my friends who have them compare them more to a good 12 turn motor than a 10. But that's still plenty of power to get your car up to 40mph or so(you just have to gear it pretty tall). And right now, there really isn't a Novak brushless that can match the power of an 8 turn, though I'd heard that they are working on a more powerful system than they have now(but they have to design a different ESC for it, the one in the SS4800 & SS5300 systems can't handle anymore power, according to them). But in general I agree, I think a brushless system would be ideal for your purposes, kh15, I know it's not cheap, but the near maintanence-free nature of it will make up for the initial cost in the long run.......

Grizzbob - That's why I said "according to novak". In stock at my local track you hit 30mph at the end of the straight, I'm sure you could get the novak 5800 to hit 35-40.

yea i think i'm pretty set on what im gonna do now i think i will just run the stock motor for a while to get used to the car and then i might get a reedy spec 19t, and that should last me thru november and i should have some birthday money around december and i'll be 18 so maybe i little more than i'm used to and i will buy some presents for my tc3 including a novac system.
i'm looking at the novak super sport system on tower hobbies and it says its the equivelent to a 27t motor thats confusing the hell out of me i thought you guys said that system is like more like a 10t?

Novak makes three different brushless systems. One specifically for the Traxxas E-Maxx, one that's equivalent to a stock 27 turn motor (the one you're looking at on Tower) and one that's equivalent to a 10 turn modified (more like 12-13 turn).

yea i think i'm gonna get that 5800 novak system, but if i want to race where brushless is not allowed can i just unhook the brushless motor and put a 10t in using the same esc that came in the system or is that one only desighned for brushless?

No, you have to run an ESC designed for brushed motors and vice versa. That Novak ESC is only designed to work with the Novak 4300 and 5800 brushless motors.

The 5800 Novak is what you want. Unfortunately, the ESC has to work with brushless, but can not with brushed. The 27t system you talk about is the 4300 system. I've run both, and the 5800 is fast, I'd say about 14t. Almost no maintenance. They aren't equivalent in turns though, so comparing to brushed is hard. The brushless is a little bit bulky and heavy. They are good with torque though; actually for the speed the torque is comparable to a much lower turn motor. That's why, even when they are set in stock mode (the ESC has 6 profiles), they are much quicker than a traditional brushed stock and why most tracks outlaw them for stock. Another problem, if you go with the wide open mode, since I feel it is more like a 14t, you'll have to race mod, and that means, unless you find a tight track, you just won't be able to keep up. how fast would you say in mph does your 5800 go?
is thier really no maintance or do you have to clean it alittle?

kh15 - A friend of mine tore his down after a few months use(carpet/asphult), there was nothing inside the motor at all. It was perfect and the bearings were still smooth. As long as you don't drive it in dirty or wet conditions it will stay in great condition.

How fast is dependant on a number of issues. I've run it in a 4wd offroad buggy, and it was fast, but if you put it into a TC with a tall gear it will scream. Also since it thermal shuts down, put a fan on the ESC and it should go faster. I run on tracks, so top speed is just a guess.

...and, no the 5800 will not keep up with those. A lot of those cars are probably as low as 8t. Brushless isn't that big of a secret, if it were that fast, those guys would be running them. The 5800 is named the Super Sport for a reason. They are great for low maintenance and are efficient. They're so efficient, the last brushless race they had, the mains were 8 minutes long.

yea i wish it wasent so pricey but i'll get it one dollar at a time,
and it would still kinda suck because i couldent enter in races so i would in addition the the 5800 system i would have to buy another esc and i nice low turn motor to run in competition if i chose to, but for now i just want my tc3 to scream through local parking lot races with buddys

kh15 - You could just buy a lathe and a mod motor and be done with it, as long as your esc can handle a mod. Brushes at $4 a pair can add up, but if your just bashing you could re-use them a few times.

well i just rolled some numbers thru my head and a good low turn motor + a no limit esc + brushes +l lathe would cost around 300+$
so this 5800 brushless system is good for anyone really who wants to spend some money in other places on the car than just the motor so i will get it for sure!!!!!!!!!!!
