i thought it didn't matter but just double checking...
clockwise or counter clockwise when looking at it from this angle (note the attachment)

The armature should always turn so that it tries to lift the lathe-bit. This presses the amature down in the slots and prevents it from flying around the room, or in your eyes or something..

That reminds me. I had a friend (who shall ramain nameless) shoot an arm across the pits at me and hit me in the chest one time. Funniest damn thing I've ever seen in the pits.

New Hudy lathe and the dumb ass took the little plastic clips off that hold the arm in place. That's what was so funny is the arm was spinning the right way.
