Default Help me pick the perfect radio!!!

I am in need of a FM or PCM radio that has certain specification. I would like to have:
3 model memory

computerized (no dials)

EPA

ATV

FM or PCM

3 channel if it doesn't make it too expensive

I don't really want to spend more than $150.00

Hopefully there is something out there that meets these specifications. Lemme know your ideas. THanks in advance.

I have used the M8 for over a year now. I really like that radio. so many features to list but here is a link where you can read about the radio that has been voted BEST RADIO by the RCCA Readers Poll for the last 3+ years.

I'd suggest you have a look at KO's EX-11 Presto, it has about all the features you mentioned & it can be found for around $150.....

Futaba servos are nice but their radio's aren't that tough. For $150 your best buy is either a KoPropo EX-11 or a JR XR3. Now these radios come with a receiver, and the JR comes with a receiver and 2 servos. If you only need the radio, check out Airtronics M8, I beleive it's around $175.

Dennis,

The most important thing to look for is ergonomics. If you compare features, most high end radios are equivalent or pretty close, once you're looking at radios at that level, the comfort in your hands is really the important thing.

M8 Limited Edition . I used mine for the first time last sunday in my prostock car...it was hard to use the futaba magnum in my modified car after using the M8. Best investment for R/C that I have made in a long time. :coo:

dennis,

just about every top radio from futaba, jr, ko, and hitec (sorry if i left anyone out, but those are the only ones i can think of) will have the top-line features that you are looking for. some might be overkill, but if you stay in the hobbie long enough, you'll use these features.

i agree w/ one of the prior posts that ergonomics is key. case in point. i prefer the use of my m8 because i just happen to drive my electrics better w/ it.

i also use the jr r1. i got this for my gas car, and also because it's a 40 band radio (japanese frequency). oh yeah, it's also pcm. at the track it was great not having to wait for a frequency clip, but for some reason, i couldn't drive my electrics as well w/ this controller. now, i use it exclusively w/ my gt-4.

now, i see that ko has a new controller, and it looks real technical. i don't know much about it, but that might be something you'd like to look into.

as for features, just make sure you have: dual rate, exponential, epa, and multiple profiles - which i believe all these top radios have. there are other features you might want to mess with, but the ones i mentioned are the essentials.

oh yeah, the transmitter is an extension of the driver, all the state-of-the-art bells and whistles don't mean jack if you can't manipulate it to make the car easier to drive.

If I were you I would've bought JR XR3.

I think XR3 is the cheapest computer 3 channel FM radio that has all the function a racer ever need and looks very cute.

I also agree that you should buy the one you can use it for a long time and are comfortable running your car fast.

Try to use your friends radios and feel the difference, most of high quality radios have all the functions you need.

my 2 cents.
