Default Talk me out of buying a new Touring Car!!!

I have an original Xray T2. I want to run a Spec 17.5 class (no timing/boost).

The car is in good shape, but upon setting it up i notice how very unbalanced it was with a lipo. I have to add tons of weight. Also the bulkheads will only allow thinner orion lipos (bulkheads are dremmeled).

I know I can buy a brass weight ($50) that fits in the slots, but worry about battery fit and putting another $50 in an outdated car.

Talk me out of buying a new T/C?

I always see used Touring cars selling around $200 and I can get a new car for around $300+. (TC5R new for $260 at tower with coupons)

thanks
Chris

Keep the T2 and either cut a top deck for it and stack them so you can use bigger lipos, or get a Exoteck lipo chassie conversion for it for $100.00. Either way alot cheaper than buying a $300.00 new car. My.02

Touring cars can cost you roughly $1000. That's for the kit, electronics, battery, spare parts, tires and body. Do you really want to go though all that again?

I dont think the exotek chassis will fit the original T2.

Can you out-drive your car? Do you have more skill than the pro's that were using that chassis 5 years ago? I ask myself that every time I feel like upgrading, and come to the same conclusion each time

I keep telling myself the same thing. The question I have, is a better designed/ balanced car be easier to drive?

Again thanks for the suggestions

I'm kind of in the same boat. I own an Associated FT TC3. Owned and ran since 2004. Started out as a Stock Rubber TC and in the last year it was converted into a Vintage Trans-Am class car. I've been looking at newer Touring Car chassis but every time I do I keep thinking, "HEY! Replacement parts are still available so why upgrade?" Plus in VTA just about every TC chassis ever made is competitive. Once parts start to get harder to get then I will be more serious at looking for an upgrade.

I say if you're still being competitive with your current touring car and parts are still available, stick with your current TC and save the money. Just my .02.

I feel one of the best upgrades I did to our old TC3 was put TC4 shock towers and chassie braces on them. My son still runs it in VTA still a very competitive car.

Same with me I always tell myself I would not sell my 416WE just going to buy me an exotek, smokem or even a Tamiya conversion lipo chassis but I am weak so I sold my beloved 416 and bought a new one. To be honest with you guys I felt bad when I sold my car but when I got the new car, totally forgot my 416 man let me tel you,l it's just like having a new girlfriend. If I was you sell your car and buy a new one. Now that's my 2 cents.

BTW read my signature.

Why not? It's fun to buy and build a new car.
