Default Benefit to Carpet racing?

Is their a benefit to carpet racing? Cheaper tires maybe? Do the tires wear better then road? Do the cars incur less damage?

Sheltered racing in the winter time. [usually means cleaner surface and slightly more starting grip than asphalt]

Tire wear depends on a lot of factors, but for the sake of argument, providing equal grip levels, same tires, etc, wear is a bit less on carpet.

Most carpet tracks [at least in the US] have hard barriers, so fewer broken parts is definitely NOT one of the benefits of carpet.
