Xray T3 2011
#121

The parts they sent for Paul and I to test we were able to bolt on to are T3, but I have no clue how Xray plans on doing it all. I would think that you could update your kit, but like always it seems better to just buy a new one as for getting your best bang for you buck. All your parts will still work from the T3.
Some of the chages are pretty big for Xray. As for shocks I feel that we have some of the best out there. Don't fix wants not broken.
You also have to think how many company's have touring cars these days. The pie is the same size but the pieces of the pie are smaller. At this years IIC Xray had the most cars at the race. Which I think it says alot about the support the team gives at these races. So with buying an Xray you get a great product and great support from team drivers. What other team has a driver like Paul Lemieux that will stop working on his car to help someone out with there's. I don't see guys like Marc or Hara doing things like that."Not sayong that not nice guys"
Or when you call RCAmerica you can talk with guys like Ralph Burch or get intouch with Paul or me.
So with us its more about the whole package. Were racers helping racers. I feel that is a good marketing plan.
Its the little things that makes people want to buy Xray. Right now the market is flooded with cars, and many of them are good. But its the extra things the team does that helps people make there choice.
If you are every at a race and we are there stop by and talk with us. We are the most easiest team to approch and talk with. And I am sure there are a bunch of guys that can tell you that.
Thanks Drew

You really don't get that with other teams...for the most part, if you don't see "BRAND X" drivers at a race, you have no support from them. The way I see it, you actually get more than you pay for in the box.

Two years ago from what saw and heard back at the ROAR nationals in Omaha, NE that was not the case. Xray team sat in their corner and appeared the most unapproachable and to themselves. Many said they didn't want to be bothered. Where as Corally, S.M. were helping people. That's good they changed that perception.
Last year at the Capital Classic (301 Raceway) I blew my nitro engine. Not only did Drew and Ralph get me one the next morning, they were at the table arguing over the best way to break it in so I could be ready for the first Qual. To top it off, during the warm-ups, my pit man called me in and when I looked down, there was Ralph with my car, temping and tuning. You really can't pay for that kind of support.
This year at the GLC, I sat right across from Drew and Ralph (WCs). I'm by far not one of the best drivers out there, but damn if I didn''t learn a ton from talking and watching. Yeah, they joked about how bad I am

I don't know of any other team that provides that kind of support and for someone like me, it's more important to know I can ask for help than just about anything else.

sex appeal to the new car. lol
I think a combination of black and gun metal would look nice. Also I got to dig these shocks and color.
Come on admit it! lol

I think the fact of the matter is that there will always be a market for new cars and the reasons for people buying these new kits are not always the same. Some people simply want the latest and greatest. Others are hard on their cars all season long and it is simply easier to buy a new kit than to rebuild/refresh their entire car. Luckily with Xray, Tamiya, AE, and many others, they keep most of the expendable parts the same from year to year so you can maintain a stock of spare parts that aren't obsolete when you upgrade.
As far as the team goes, Xray has some of the top drivers in the world, and especially in the United States. As many have said this is a priceless asset to the car. I have been driving a Tamiya for the last 8 months or so, and while the car is great (and god do I love that blue color), the lack of support can be frustrating, especially trying to buy parts without ordering overseas.
On the subject of friendliness and approachability, Xray's team really shines. I met a lot of their "A-team" at the Snowbirds this year and they are great, friendly guys who would give you the shirt of their back. I hung out in the Xray pit with Drew, EA, Paul, and the rest of the gang and even as a Tamiya guy who wasn't even racing that week, they were super friendly and helpful with my questions on setup, gearing, etc. Drew Ellis even went out of his way to meet me in person through a mutual friend after we had emailed back and forth a few times, which meant a lot to me.
Even their "B-team" on the state level are very willing to share information, loan/give you parts, etc. I race with many of their B-team drivers in the Florida State series, many of which are national champs (Florida has the 2010 Reedy Race 13.5 champion, Reedy Race 17.5 runner up and 3rd place, 2010 Onroad Nationals 17.5 champion, etc. etc., all of which are on the Xray team). These guys are friendly, great racers, and a huge asset to Xray.

Not attacking you RCknight, but i had a completely different experience.

, but they also watched me during quals and gave feedback on what I was doing wrong
. I tried to not bother them and Ralph even gave me a bit of trouble for not asking for help.

At last years Halloween Classic Drew Ellis and Robby Dodge were great. They had no problems helping me what so ever. If I broke a part and didn't have a spare they gave it to me for free even when I offered to pay. Granted they probably get stuff for free, but that isn't the point. They are more than willing to help anybody.
Eric Anderson is another stand-up guy. I didn't even know him when I e-mailed him with questions when I got my T3 Foam edition.
