I've got a problem where I have excessive 'drag' brake during corner entry. I quote 'drag' since I have no drag brake specified on the speedo. The only thing I can think of is that the motor itself is causing the drag. I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'cog' in the motor when you rotate the wheels by hand - strong magnets, I assume.

I'd like the motor to run a bit freer; my first thought was to add some push control, but it (strangely enough) didn't have any effect. I know in 1/12 that push control works exrtremely well, allowing the car to roll through the corners better. However, it doesn't seem to have much effect with the D3.

Anyone have any suggestions? The drive train runs free, so I don't think the issue comes from that.

Thanks!

(I'm also going to post this on the Tekin RS thread, as this thread hasn't seen much activity lately).
What is your final drive?

7.4

I know another driver is using 7.4 as well with an LPR X12 13.5. But, someone else at our club is running at 6.4 (not sure which motor).

I can always gear lower, but I'd rather not as I'll loose some low-end punch.

Duo3 and X12 motors usually are way off each other on FDR.

I'd try gearing down and maybe reducing the motor timing if you need to. There are other ways to get the low-end back.

Hell, I am running an 8.2 FDR with a 5.0t D3. Boosted and turbo.

I said gearing down but what I meant was gearing up... try something in the mid to high 6's for FDR.

Try a 12.5 mid power band or 12.3 high torque.
Both worked well in 17.5 spec truck class.

Default Boost or gearing?

Assuming you hit the same temp, is it better to run higher gearing to reach that temp or to add boost? Which would produce the most power and which would be the most efficient?

Most efficient is to use boost. I think to hit the exact same temp with gearing versus boost, the boosted car would be much faster. You have more control when tuning with the speed control and boost versus using gearing and motor timing.

You'll have more torque out of the corner if you add boost, since it's added incrementally over the specified rpm range. If you gear up, the motor has to work harder and won't be able to spin up as quickly, so you'll have less torque out of the corner, but possibly more straightaway speed.

You need to find a balance between what gearing to run and how much boost to apply, and how fast. This is both a 'technical' issue (you can overheat your motor via heat if you're too aggressive), but it also has to match your driving style.

Hey guys,

Is the D3 still the king in the boosted 17.5 class?? It has been a while since I ran electric and I am planning on getting back on it.
