Hey Joey,
what weight diff fluid are you using with the metal gears, I assume
you are running rear diff / front spool?
Thanks

Just a quick question - is anyone out there running ceramic bearings in their TRF417x/v5? Wondered if there is a real difference and worth the change or if the Tamiya standard kit bearings are pretty good? Got a V5 and thought I'd ask before starting the build

I came across an oneway for $10 new. I've only used one for drifting, what can I expect in my v5 on carpet?

I'm running acer. If I were to buy again. I'd buy abec35.

My ceramics have allowed me to get more runtime and last longer. The stainless ones scarred on the rears after about 20 batteries. No matter the cleaning, re lubing etc, they felt gritty. After I took them out, I noticed they were scratched badly. It was 5 out of 8 of my wheel bearings.

The grinding contributed to wheel shaft play also.

I'd get it only if you have to replace. 17.5 on carpet takes more abuse than I expected.

Yes, I am running rear gear diff and front spool. I am sure many will disagree (many like oils), but I filled 3/4 of it with Associated Black Grease. It works great for me.

Why if you were to buy again would you not buy acer?

Do the 416 and 417 share turn blocks and caster blocks?

Trfs have fluoride bearings. They are very smooth and reliable. I have only replaced one pair in 2 years. (13.5 / 17.5 indoor).

Ceramics are not necessary unless you want to burn cash.

I did sand mine(the plastic gears for running a 17.5 Blinky class), though I'll admit I didn't try to measure for the 3.57mm, just made them smooth & followed my instincts. And at first, the diff was a wee bit tight, but after a little break-in work, it turned out great, feels excellent & runs good, too....
