Hello TryHard,

I have a setup question for you. I just picked a up a Tamyia 417. Im running the box stock setup the only change i made to the car is that i added a gear diff in the rear ( with 1000w in it) and a spool up front.

Im running 13.5 on Med bite outdoor asphalt with Protoform LTC -Body and solara hard compound tires.

The problem im having is it has a push going into the turns how can i get it to steer into the turn/corner quicker/rotate. And i need more on power steering I have to llft alot to get into the turn. I hope this makes sence. Lol...

I've been watching alot of videos of Mark Rinehard,Victor Wilck,Jilles Groskamp and Elliot Harper and i like how there cars corner better thats what im looking for.

Thanks

If your using the kit springs, then change the front's to match the rears. I would suggest Tamiya blue's all round, as these are closest to the HPI Silvers that most use on tarmac.
The kit springs have a weight split (blue/yellow), so will naturally make the car understeer.

Other things to try would be to remove the 0.5mm shims from underneath the front most suspension blocks. Remember to re-set the droop when you try this. It lowers the front roll center, giving more grip.

HiH

I've been looking some modified setup sheets from jilles and marc.

Most of the setups have 2 mm front suspension arm spacer. Instead of the 1.5 mm thats default from the kit. Is this something standard that is changed? Just to get the car more stable?

What pinion for the113 spur.gear would I use running a non ramped 17.5?

Thanks... currently running a 30 pinion.

Also without taking off the top deck what is the easiest way to swap out.the pinion?

I would try using a smaller spur. I ran 17.5 non ramped with a 3.5 fdr.

Does anyone prefer the Tamiya springs over the HPI silver when running in the parking lot?

wow... 3.5? even with the 111 spur, that's like a 62 tooth pinion.

i mean i'm calculating this right, right? from the manual:

spur divided pinion times 1.947 = fdr...

so with the 113 i have in right now, a 63 gets me around 3.49...

i guess i'm still thinking with my off road SCTs, where i run 12-15 tooth pinions...

I suggest to run 100 on spur and try to get ratio around 3.8-4.1 it depend on the track lay out

why a smaller spur? saves rotational weight?

after all, isnt fdr from 113/62 is that same as 100/56 fdr (going for a 3.5)?

track will be a parking lot in a crappy mall. so it will be dirty. dont know if they will pre-sweep it.

Yes, both ratios are indeed the same, however, the 113/62 combo WILL NOT FIT with the available spacing of the motor mount, thus, you have to go smaller on the spur/pinion combo. I would also beware of the 100/56 combo. I know 100/52 will work, better to try....if not, go even smaller on the spur...good luck!!
