Monster Horsepower Stock Tuning
 

Can anybody help? Ive just started to race stock class with my Pro 4 . My equipment reads as 3000 & 3300 batts, LRP quant pro speedo. I will be racing indoors on carpet. the track is small and twisty, also i need gearing for a large flowing track. Any idears

With a monster I'd suggest you start with a ratio of 7.3 - 7.5 for indoors and 5.8 - 6.0 outdoors and work from there

The best way to find the right gearing is to ask the fast guy ,what is his final drive and go from there and make sure he's running the same motor

At S&N Trackside we ran 7.88:1 or 8:1 with Monster Stocks. It is a tight carpet tract that runs rubber tires. You are in the UK so you probably are running rubber on carpet. If you run foams at a starting diameter of 58-56mm then 7.3-7.5:1 is good.

I am racing on foams, when the diameter on the tyres gets less do you have to gear up to compensate for wear. Thanks

yes because the final drive ratio gets higher so you need to lower the ratio.

Are you trying to get him to burn his motors up?

if you run on a sizeable track thats flowing this gear ratio should be just fine....ive heard at Trackside the pro class at the Novak race was gearing in the mid to low 7's...i geared high 7's

I think he's talking about the 5.8-6.0 gearing. Not even if I was full throttle on a wide open track for the whole race would I think to go that far below 7.0 with a Monster Stock.

It really depends on the track and the type of layout you're on.


5.8-6.0 would be just about right for this track. kakegawa style

i can assure you, u'll burn your monster gearing that high, im speaking from experience. i also noticed that the lower you gear your monster, the quicker your lap times get, remember, the straights is not the only part of the track, you need to be competitve in the twisty technical portions also.

This is what happens to a Monster stock pro when you run with a gearing of 6 :cry:

Been there, done that...

It all depends on your rollout, I run a 6.5 on a medium sized track. If I went to a large track I'd be running around a 6.0.

Stegger - I'd say start with a 24mm rollout and go from there.

rollout - (tire width in mm x 3.14) / Overall gear ratio
