Soldering Station or Iron
I'm tired of buying cheap soldering irons from RadioShack. Wasted 4 already. Its time to buy a good one. I have my eyes on Weller W60P Soldering Iron $65, and Hakko 936-12 60W Soldering Station w/Iron Holder (ESD Safe) $85. Very hard to decide. Soldering Iron is easier to carry around and won't take up too much space. Station have more feature, but do I need them?

it really depends.....either way will be good....
ive also gone through cheap irons...like 6 i tihnk until i got a good one..
right now im using a 70w Goot (px242) from japan....excelllent iron with ceramic element takes 20 secs to heat up with very good recovery.
ive also used a hakko station of someoneelses (9XX) cant remember and it was very good aswell
u dont relly need alot of functions as long as youre just using it for motors and batts i tihnk.
if its 20 dollars difference id get the Hakko but its larger in sixe....so u decide but either will do

I'm thinking about Goot too, but don't know who selling them.
Well, I might just get Hakko for ESD and ceramic element feature.

In the long run get a soldering station tips usually lasts longer. Weller SP40 is an alternative (much better than the cheap radio shack or unknown branded ones) The weller sp40 has a very large chisel tip. The bigger the tip the better the heat transfer. It'll last as long as you turn it off after use.

I have bad luck with wearing the craiyp out of the tips on my wellers...
That is why I want to go to Japan someday....They have all sorts of cool swag like that iron. Plus, I could live off of sushi

I got my TQ-95 mine from www.bomir.com. Best $35 I have spent so far. It idles as 15w but can get up to 150w if you press the button on the handle. There are better models from Goot but I am happy with the TQ-95.

Help
I have question about Watt and Temp. Getting confused?
Two different soldering irons have same temp at 480deg C, one is 28W and other is 60W. What is the difference? Both have same temp.

for a hakko 936 go to www.kiesub.com
but the 936 they sell comes with the lighter duty 907 handle.
i have had it for two years.
kiesub also carries the larger screwdriver tip. 3.2mm and 5mm
kester solder "44" 60/40
and shrink wrap.
