Is it ok to use 26mm tires on 24mm rims, or should you keep tire and rim width the same?

My dad did that....

I'd say keep it the same though

I have ran 24mm tires on 26mm rims, they worked fine, not sure about 26mm tires on 24mm rims, have you tried fitting them without gluing them, do they seem to fit? i think the only problem you might have is that the tire would get a rollover effect on the rim & wear out quickly or feel squirrely. if you try it, let us all know how it went.

Sidewall roll-over is what I'm worried abot. When I mounted the tires they looked like the diameter was excessive and it was easy to see that the tires were wider than the rims. I think I will buy a set of 24mm tires for the rims and a set of 26mm rims tomorrow.
