Default Am I the only one that likes Group C cars?

It seems nobody gives a lot of attention to the "late" Group C cars although Tamiya tried to revive them with a painted Sauber Mercedes C11 a few years back.
I used the forum's search function but not much showed up.

I got a hand on a first edition Tamiya kit with unpainted body but did not much care about the silver painted C11.
Sauber C9s were painted much more colorful and very similar to a C11. This is my first C9 that won a few races in the late 1980s.

The decals are made on my Alps printer which took me two months to design and another month to apply them. I still have to paint the helmet and then I want to move on to the next C9 paint scheme: The blue Michelin C9 driven by Mike Thackwell in the German Cup.

No...I believe that is pre-f103 and probably the plastic tub version of the F102. If it were a F103 it would most likely be the F103LM not the GT as the GT runs TC wheels and tires.

I miss Group C/GTP racing full sized and in RC miss the days when the wing was separate from the body so that they looked more true to scale. Any of the Tamiya cars of that era were beautiful or the nice 1/10th pan car bodies like the Pro-Line Jaguar XJR12, the Andy's Mercedes GTP, or the Andy's Porsche 962. There was some other really nice bodies from back then as well but I can't recall off hand which ones. I think there was a Silk Cut Jag but not sure.

Nice job on the Merc. Please post some pics of the Michelin one when your done as I think that will be a great looking paint scheme aswell. Do you sell the decal sheets that you make?

I really like the group C cars, i have a few R91cp's a Jag, a Merc and the 787B. Fun cars to drive aswell and I havent really needed to replace any parts which is a bonus. Its a pity no one races them.

try tamiyaclub.com as there are quiet a few on there.

It would be nice to revive these cars. I still have my Nissan R91CP, that I painted with a NISMO/Clarion livery. It only ran a couple of laps around the Tamiya USA track, back in the mid 90's. Now it's just a shelf queen. I've been trying to find a new set of wheels & rubber tires, but no luck. I've tried the F104 wheels and rubber tires, but the rears are too narrow.

Do you have any pics you can post? This is my R91 - still need to finish the drivers head

Will the F103 rubber tyres fit or the new f104 walter wolf tyres, it has a desent set of tyres on the back.

Also heres the poster for Merc C-11

Here are a few of mine... Crappy photo but the only one i have.
Got a few C11, 787B and Jaguar NIB, just waiting in their boxes.
I run the 787B and use Zen F1 tires on it, works as good as F103's.

Here are some of my NIB cars and bodies...

IMO, that's what World GT should have looked like.

RCGT already covers the scale looks of the American Lemans series, etc.

Group C bodies, or Protoform's Mulsanne LMP body would have gone a long way to complete the scale racing appearance and really separate the look of the WGT cars from the RCGT and VTA cars.

I understand the Protoform Sophia is the body of choice, but just like TC, if you aren't running it, you aren't competitive. BAH. Give me a cool looking body over that mess any day.

+1 Will the Tamiya bodies (C11 and Courage) fit wgt cars like the CRC or XRay 1/10?

I know it's not GTP per se, but this is what I'm currently running on my XRAY X10 Link in our Pro10 series:

It's the HotBodies Toyota TS020 painted to replicate the LMP1 Bentley from 2002. We need more body manufacturers to offer up bodies like this for both the 235 and 200 chassis. Who do we write a strongly worded letter to?

I'll get some pics and post it. Nice job on the body & cockpit.
The F103/Wolf WR1 rubber tires might be too small for the Gr.C body/F104 wheels.
The Gr.C & F104 wheels are the same diameter, but different width.

The C11 is wider & has a longer wheelbase than the ADVAN Courage body.
