Default Measurement Request

Can someone with a Mercedes C11 please give me some measurements?

Specifically I need the front track in mm, rear track in mm, wheelbase in mm and the width of the body at the front and rear wheel centerlines.

I also need tire diameter front and rear when new.

I don't currently have Group C chassis/car and I'm beginning work the planson for the clay model.

Thanks in advance.

Dimensions for the C11 are:

Chassis
front width 196mm
rear width 202mm
wheelbase 280mm
front tyres 64mm diameter, 28mm wide
rear tyres 68mm diameter, 45mm wide

Now if you want to make a body for your own car, or to sell only a handful of them, then stick to making it for the C11. If you want to stand a chance of recovering your costs then making it for something that people will actually race means you can actually sell a good few of them. Making it for the 280mm Group C chassis means you are really limiting your market.

The C11 like all Tamiya Group C chassis can be built with 280mm, 270mm or 260mm wheelbase. Making the 962 to fit the middle 270mm wheelbase means it would also fit on all the Tamiya F104W chassis that they now make with retro f1 bodies, or making your body so it fits a 260mm wheelbase means there are plenty of WorldGT chassis it would also fit.

Terry, thanks for the measurements and comments/suggestions. I didn't realize the Mercedes C11 was that long. If I make the body for the 270mm wheelbase setting i will hit two key markets-F1 chassis owners and Group C chassis owners. And although there may be many World GT chassis owners I think the majority of them aren't that interested in scale appearing cars-it seems to me that they are more interested in what is the best handling World GT body.

Nice to see it all put together. Is that the body you got from me a while back?

X1 for the 270mm length. Actually Ed (repeating myself) you would be the only source for a Le Mans F104 shell.

There is a Dude in Australia (Pato's) that makes just about anything you can throw at him. Not cheap but very good. Let me know if you want his email.

If your looking for some sun and the opportunity to dust-off your Le Mans or "C" Chassis, the second and four Sunday of the month we race them at Camarillo's Road Runners track, PM me for more Info.

Cheers!

Dear Tamiya USA,

When is Tamiya going to finally make a 1/10 Porsche 962C using their Group C
chassis like the Mercedes C11 or Nissan R91CP? I would model it after your
#24233 1/24 plastic model. I think it would make a great addition to your
line and would surely be a top seller. Just look at all the comments on the
RC forums such as RCTech.net to see he demand for that as well as
re-re-releases of the previously made cars like the Jaguar and Mazda Group
C/GTP cars.

Dear Tamiya Customer,

Unfortunately we at Tamiya America don't have that information, all of
Tamiya's decisions regarding development and planning for new releases and
"re-releases" are made at Tamiya Inc. in Japan and are posted on their site
first. If you would like to see the products that Tamiya is planning to
release, please go to:

http://www.tamiya.com/english/e-home.htm

Tamiya America
Customer Service

So I will now send the same email to Tamiya Japan. If they receive more than one email maybe they'll consider it.
So then I emailed Tamiya in Japan. Their response was:

Dear Mr. Delgado,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and we deeply apologize for this belated reply.

Please understand that we are unable to inform any product release information until it is officially announced. However, Tamiya is always open to suggestion and we appreciate your comment. We will forward your message to our R/C model planning division and see what they can do, but before any decisions are made we must determine if there is enough global demand for such products.

For your information, 2012 Shizuoka Hobby Show is taking place in May 19th-20th and we will be exhibiting a range of new products. You may have already noticed but please check the new items list from the following link at your leisure: http://www.tamiya.com/english/shs/shs2012/index.htm

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us here in Japan and we greatly appreciate your kind support.

Best regards,

International Division
Tamiya, Inc.

Let me tell you, the ideal thing would be for Tamiya to make a Porsche 962C in 1/10 scale, but if not, I guess I'll do it myself. In the meantime, if you would like to express to Tamiya in Japan that such a model would interest you, then go right ahead.
