I ran foam/carpet with a one-way all winter and never had a problem with it being unstable. The test I did yesterday was also foam/carpet but with a spool(locked diff). Although I've only done about 5 packs it feels great so far. If anything the rear end was too locked in; I'll have it rotating the way I like by the time winter comes around.

One question.
When i was playing GP car last year, i was using rear spool and front one way. I havent tested this thing on EP cars yet, but is it possible to drive it at all?

If you are locking your diff by glueing them together then it will wear the drives faster try taking the balls out and gluing header card paper to old diff rings,put it togrther and tighten it down. Dont lock it all the way down conpleatly back it off just enought so in a hard impact it will give alittle.That may help slow down the wear on the out drives and cvd's, and reduce breakage.

I was running an extremely tight diff when I was doing testing for Reedy. Felt pretty much the same but like you said, was able to give a little on impact.

then surely a very very tight diff would be better then a spool?

But maintainence on a very tight diff is a must.
I used to run very tight diff. It gives me great traction out of a turn. But the trust bearing need to be look at from time to time. I have already change it twice over a period of 6 months.

You still get a little more rip out of the corners with a true spool. But again, on my spool, I'm running steel out drives so there isn't much wear to worry about with them. Most of the wear and tear is on the CVD's.

ok so spools have less maintanence and have more rip.
so if you was racing carpet and needed more stabillity so went to a diff from a one way instead of a diff a spool woyuld be better?

I went from a one-way to a tight diff on carpet and it has definately helped. My diff is very tight and only gives a little. I snapped a diff screw tightening it too much the first time and don't have any spares.

I'm currently using a CGM with one way and would like to try the ball diff since our track here is small medium, very technical and traction is pretty good. . My current set up is a standard cgm setup with just minor changes.Handles pretty good actually but I have to change my diff gear every 10 runs or so and I'm getting frustrated.. In the previous pages I've noticed that using the spools or and a very tight diff needs minor adjustment especially the droop. Could you please elaborate on that a little further. Thanks.
