Angry Arrrghhhh - or just the value of local part support !!!!

Okay, a little over a year ago, I bought the last virgin HPI Pro2 (NIB) in my country. I new it would get harder and harder to get parts, but the price was extremely low. And this car almost dont break.

But parts wear out and so did the balls in the diff. HPI support is real bad around here, so just to get the answer that they dont support competition cars around here anymoore, took around 3 weeks (the LHS spend a little week in the process).

Sosidge on this forum, told me that Yokomo uses the carbide balls that I wanted in the same size. found another LHS, wich support Yokomo. He had the balls within 2 days, even though he didnt stock them himself.

So far so good.

So tonight, after 3 weeks without beeing at the tracks, I rebuild my diffs and was looking forward to get to the track wednsday... But guess what, the LHS with Yokomo by fault gave me the wrong size of the balls... I didnt recognize, since I'm used to metric system and they are measured in some weird numbers ARRRGHHH...

Well, I just have to change the balls to the right size, but I was really looking forward to some race fun....

Long story, buttom line: ensure you have good local part support !!!

That, or maybe just know people in other countries who will send you parts!

LOL

Seriously, I think the balls in the Pro 2 are 3/32", which is the same as a TC3 - so maybe you can go that way...

I believe 3/32" is 2.4mm, which is what I think they are!

Cheers

Dave

Oops sorry -

But is 3/32" still the correct size for the Pro 2?

Whoopsy!

I buy diff-balls in a local shop that specialises in bearings. Cheaper and harder balls than are available in the LHS.

I would love to go to iceland, but it's too far to get balls for a diff

Pro2 uses both 2,4 and 2,0 - 2,4 is easy to get, it was 2,0 that cheated me. However, it's only a matter of time, untill I get the right balls. Meanwhile, I'll mount my old trusty gear diffs from my Sport2. It's annoying to tear apart two cars, just to get going, but I really mis the track by now !

Isn't there some local shop close to you that sells bearings?

I did get the point about finding another shop. I just couldn't resist the comment about going to Iceland. Thing is, I'm too busy with some other stuff, so I take the easy solution in the LHS, even though it's more expensive. In this case, I was just out of luck...

I reckoned you did. I was teasing you. Where in Denmark are you? I was in Odense some years ago for the DHI-Cup and found just one RC shop, they'd just opened and didn't have much stock.

I'm in Ølstykke - that's 30-35 km from Copenhagen. It's sad, many LHS's around here dont carry much of interest - they usually aim for the beginner to intermediate drivers.

I saw a homepage from Iceland, which was about Pro2 and XRay - is it your site? I found it very interesting.

when I raced off-road I did the same thing and got a packet of 1000 diff balls for about the same price as one official kit replacement set.
