I never sold my s400. Since arms and C hubs should be available again I think I will campaign in VTA with the old S400. I like the way the car handled. I hear people say that the car just didnt work. But the nut behind the wheel was always a bigger problem than the handling of the Serpent.

I've been asking around regarding serpent but due to the reputation that they have got on the S400 every racer is shying away from serpent as far as ep is concern. Not sure if there are anyone out there willing to take another chance with them again

I think in onroad if something works people will get it. If serpent can support this car as well as they have the 811 s120 and 733 and if it works as well as the s400 did I think people will come around

I WANT THIS CAR!!

Its results that help move the car, and product support that keeps people running it. As long as there is a bit of both they will get around. Personally I like a car that is less common. Its more fun to bat people with a car they don't even know the name of.

I agree that runnning and winning with a lesser known car is fun and it will be my pleasure to run a S401 when the time comes. I will say one thing though, patience is not a virtue as I wait for this car.

Just having another quick look over the car...

Would be much nicer if the diff outdrives where double slotted to allow you to change which slot you used for the swingshafts. This would give you much more life from the same parts and would be a more practical way or reducing weight on this component than the current design.

Also is there some sort of spacers between the motor mount and the motor mount brace on the bottom deck? Is it possible to adjust the position of the motor mount to balance the chassis left to right?

Also can you get a molded (plastic) rear upright?

I was told that Serpent backed away from the S400 because it was not "working". I dont really know what that meant. I thought it handled great on just about any surface with little changes, but I am not the greatest tuner or driver so I am sure there is something that is beyond my pay grade. One way or another Serpent felt that the car was not on par with the latest X-ray or TRF so they backed away from it. I still think they should have supported it with parts while they developed the new kit.

The problem with parts supply on the S400 had nothing to do with the car "working." In fact the S400 was a very capable car. Serpent had a falling out with the original parts supplier/manufacturer for the S400 and they were never able to recover from it.

The S401 will be made at a new factory from the get go so parts supply should not be an issue.

Corallyman,

Looks like you know more than what you are saying. Hope you could enlighten us on the issues and that could help us decide on to buy or not to buy.

Tks.

The car worked very well in my opinion. They never really had a large factory team like other manufacturers have. They had Billy go to the pre-worlds a few years back and he did really well with the car. He also did well with it at Snowbirds (and other events). Randy Caster also did well with it at several races. Yanick Prumpler (sp) also did well with it internationally before switching to Tamiya. Bart Wubben (sp) also did well with it. The issue was with the making of the parts with the original supplier. Like the poster said a few posts ago, the parts will now be made by the current supplier who has been doing the s120, s733, s966, s100, and s811 and there is parts support with those cars.

Steve

I guess I already have spares available for the upcoming car. Not to mention the springs for the shocks as well.

Any chance that the CVDs would be the same as well?
