I'm curious what kind of run times are you guys getting out of the Gravity RC USGT tires? How long are they lasting you guys?

I have a set with about 18 runs on them and that includes 8min A-mains on them.

I've found that balancing them puts a hot spot near the clay so I tried a set without balancing clay and that set lasted 1 more race day than the previous set.

Ive kept track on my last two sets. I get about 20-22 five minute runs out of them before they start to tear. This is on med grip asphalt, typically running 2.5 or 3 deg rear toe and saucing with Trinity Red Dot.

The old gravity's hundreds of laps the new gravities two full race days 10 minutes of practice 3 5 minute qualifiers and one 8 minute main. The new ones have about 60% of the grip the old ones had and they wear out faster just like all the current crop of TC tires out there unfortunately

The old ones got better the more they wore in I would run them till they were practically slicks and the car would run so well , the new ones , once the treads start to go the tire has no more grip. Bummer

True very true on them tires

Are you saying the new compound is a lot softer than the old compound?

fat500 07-09-2022 05:08 PM

No like all the current crop of tires for F1 and TC they're missing a key ingredient in the rubber so all the manufacturers are trying to work around it and the result is tires that don't last tires that shred tires that explode until a solution is found we'll just kind of have to work through it.

I don't think it's as bad as it sounds ....here in South Florida with a 90 to 95 Ambient Air Temperature or track temperature is 120 to 130 deg. and the tires really have trouble working ...out in Cali for ex,, where the temperatures are a lot more modest I noticed they seem to be having better luck.

Haven't tried any of the new USGT tires, didn't know that..
I didn't like the ballooning, then having to lower the car again, mess up my roll centers, lower it again etc...

Think we'll find out this weekend Ray. Supposed to be in the 90's for the club race.

Sabin 07-09-2022 07:49 PM

The old ones are sorta giving me fits aswell. The ballooning is raising the cars' front end a bit too much and the rear is getting squashed down to the point where I parachuted on a high speed section. Also causing understeer while trailbraking for a corner. But when the cars' front end is down enough on the high speed sections and the tires hook up, they REALLY hook up and the car is just welded to the surface.

Still working on it though.

In SoCal we regularly see 130 deg asphalt temp from June - November... we are not racing near the coast.

I'll be testing the Ride slicks tomorrow, no USGT 😟

For our club race I started running the belt version for FWD. They perform like the old USGT tyres. They become better and better with each lap.’once you wear out the centre mould line, they become increasingly consistent. Insert remains in tact and in place, because it’s not ballooning and allowing the insert to move around. I don’t need to worry about that TDK sauce making them unusable after a few runs.

Unfortunately for me 702 RC closed down last week, so I won’t get to see how many more miles I can get from this set. They do however feel like they will last for ever

USGT should switch to this version.. but then again it will mean gravity will sell less tyres, since these last so long
