Perhaps an overall body height mandate (like cough-ROAR-cough). And possibly a minimum vertical surface (width and height) at the front fascia/grille.. At some point in time moving forward, Grandfather in all current approved bodies

Otherwise there is a chance of many uber wedges under the premise of lack of licensing.. aka 21.5 TC with treaded tires

Saturday's USGT race was mostly Exotek bodies. Oh wait, it was at Exotek's track! I felt left out with my darn Protoform C8 😂

Nice car btw.

Must just be me, but when I look at all the USGT Hyper Car bodies out there, I NEVER see a touring car blob, I see a sleek sports car. I love the old USGT bodies and I love the new USGT bodies. Heck I really loved the McAllister Prototype bodies. Personally I've been running the P Zero and it works great and looks even better.

I only counted 3 Exotek bodies which is fine by me :) . Our track has a really fun and good mix of bodies and one of our biggest classes too.

Nice. What about your race, do you have a picture as well?

Now that the spec motors have been around a little while, can anyone comment how much slower they are, or how much lap time they lose to regular 21.5 mills? I’m pretty excited to join in the fun, but my local track is still running open motor. Doesn’t make much sense to buy a hot motor now, only for the class to go spec inevitably.... hoping that it can keep up somewhat during the transition?

Even though the characteristics and gearing is different, it's not severely slower. Maybe a few tenths on a medium sized track.

STLNLST 04-06-2021 04:42 AM

I wouldn’t run the spec in an open motor class. It was never intended to be run with all the current motors.

Dan 04-06-2021 06:21 AM

We run the spec motor and racing has been closer. It has also been a little easier for newcomers to get up to speed versus any ROAR legal 21.5.

The motor has a softer low end, has to be geared tall, and runs super cool. Like mentioned a few posts up, not massively slower. I would say maybe only a few tenths off on our smaller carpet track.

Not all of them look like blobs, I agree. But I think we can honestly say that EVERY company that makes a USGT body today has at least one 'offenser' in their lineup. This is not to single out one company. They all are out to make a 'superior' product, which is understandable.

But that's how this works, slow baby steps in that direction.. Soon it will be too late, if its not already.

OSherman 04-06-2021 09:02 AM

Even Tamiya is guilty.. RAIKIRI!! What is that?!

a bit of humor..

but even their ‘fake’ car looks more realistic than most of what’s on the market.. And handles pretty well also when it comes to realistic bodies. Almost trumps the tried and true NSX that dominated for a long time..

just to add a little perspective.

theproffesor 04-06-2021 09:11 AM

Why must it be “too late”.

If enough people want to get together to run 1990’s shoe boxes, put together a rule set and go right ahead. Nothing is preventing you from that. Try it and see what the market will bear.

Allowing the supercar and supercar-esk body’s is what has allowed the class to keep going, especially with the demise of HPI a few years ago. Yes it’s “back” but the licensing isn’t and good luck getting your hands on one of those bodies. Even Tamiya bodies have little to no stock, or are priced to the moon. A handful of companies stepped in to fill a void with some exotics instead of a 1997 Lexus IS300 or even a 2015 Subi. Why??? Because 🤮 that’s why.

If you ran only the bodies that are reasonably available, priced, AND real/licensed, you’d really only be running one of 3 PF bodies (guess what, one is a supercar, another is dang close), and a couple other randoms here and there to include Tamiya.

OSherman 04-06-2021 09:18 AM

My argument is not against allowing SuperCars.. I love and encourage the mix of models in one class

But if you make them, make them look the part and more true to scale... There are some Non-SuperCar bodies on the market which are disproportionate all for the sake of performance. We just have overlooked them because the SuperCars stand out the most

There is proof out there that you can make a decent looking body, without a license..

the tweaks are happening across the board, this is the issue.. and part of why we are where we are with the SuperCars..

Zerodefect 04-06-2021 09:59 AM

Walking right down the TC road. Our last USGT race was hideous. The cars looked like nothing. And we actually have the new McLarens on our streets, so.......

This is an actual street legal car (Superlite SLC):

Damn fun to build as well.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...452d538cbe.png

Basically, it's an Olde fashioned 1/12TH style body with the rear wing hacked off, and a WGTR wing bolted on.

Do you really want Supercars in USGT?

You will be nothing but frustrated if you run the spec USGT motor in a 21.5 open class. Like others have said, you have to gear the spec motor to the moon (I call this Ralph Kramden gearing as in "to the Moon, Alice"). I gear pretty close to 3.0 depending on size of the track. This results in a top speed pretty close to the open guys, but it takes forever to get there and by then the open cars are long gone.

NutDriver 04-06-2021 10:43 AM

Here is an idea that I had. Only allow CURRENT GT3 bodies!
Not every current GT3 car has a corresponding 1/10 body and some have multiples.
