Somebody needs to ask if the Can/Am 21.5 motor is on the ROAR list of approved motors for USGT. I would but I kind of promised that I would refrain from participating in the Can/Am cluster frock so they wouldn't pick on my choice of timing system or my little race track..

Drat!! Here we go again.
However, if the selected motor is on the list wouldn't it open it up to be eligible for USVTA/GT points? If eligible for points though shouldn't it be required to go through tech to insure it meets all the regulations set forth by ROAR and accepted by USGT? And if that is the case what was the point in the first place? Also unaddressed then would be the question of the so called hired guns participation since the "selected" motor isn't the one that their benefactor makes available to them thereby shortening the field because they wouldn't be able to represent their pimp. That brings up more questions but I'm in enough trouble already. |

In this thread, post 7663, one of the Can/Am Kool-Aid drinkers let us all in on a "secret" that the Can/Am selection for USGT was in fact a 21.5 motor. That is what prompted my most recent question(s).

That answers that. Since it isn't on the approved list then no points should be given toward The "official" National USGT/VTA standings.

ORCA 21.5
JC3,
When I checked the ROAR list for approved motors (2108), the first 3 21.5 motors listed are ORCAs. Not sure if they are the same that Can Am has chosen, but they're there. |

Mod VTA
We had a class that the only rule was that you had to run VTA tires. That was the ONLY rule. Everyone ended up running 4wd TCs on 2s, but efforts to run anything in excess of 17.5 were too tough to control. With that said, it certainly brought excitement and laughter back for the few weeks it lasted!

You seem to be the only person raising the question.
Let me ask this, and please correct me if I'm wrong. The national USGT points are calculated by the number of people you race against at that particular participating track. Correct? Now let's say that track is running the USGT rules, but running Can Am spec motors. First, the motors are 21.5, the same as USGT. Second, everyone is using the same handout motor. So everyone would have the same power, possibly even closer than a track where you bring your own 21.5 motor, since one brand may be better than another. With everyone running the same motor, and the race would be decided more on setup and driver skill, why wouldn't those points count? |
If a track or event is running by USGT rules then to my way of thinking the use of the exact same motor by all entrants should not pose any concern at all except for the technicality of tech inspection to ensure the motor passes the regulations set forth in the ROAR approval list. This comes into play because there is no "oh by the way" rule from USGT that says except where Can/Am motors are being used. Who knows if the motor supplier has dumped all of his unsellable "cheater" motors on Can/Am since it shouldn't matter if they are all out of "spec" since everyone is using one and no advantage or disadvantage should be noted. This brings us back to the points deal. If I am at a USGT event being run by straight up USGT rules and score National points while someone else attends a USGT event that is being run with Can/Am motors and that someone out scores me using a motor that hasn't been teched to insure legality by USGT rules despite the fact that the motors were all the same then the potential arises for significant conflict especially if it alters the National point standings and affects a possible year end award or standing. If the powers that be at USGT jump in with an oh by the way clause then the afore mentioned flack becomes their Albatross.
Since true USGT racing already is frequently decided by driving and set up skills, attempting to force everyone into a box just to justify questionable interference sounds, well, a little, I'm sorry but I can't directly answer that because political comments aren't allowed here. |
