I'm in a pot sturrin mood today.
Time to break out the popcorn... Remember I'm in the military. I live in a word of if it makes sense let's do the complete opposite. So sometimes when I see a statement made that has a glaring loophole I exploit it. Even if nothing will ever come of it nor change the end result. |

I have always thought that the USGT bodies need a limit...the 12th scale looking bodies or bodies not on American streets seem to me a major loophole....most of the people that ask about some concept type body are just looking to stir a pot or looking for some type of advantage...when in fact most of the time the body that wins is a "normal" street legal body like Z28 or Nissan 350Z....
The only issue I have is the hpi mclaren body I normally run...Its very borderline to most, but since Ive been running it since 2009ish nobody has giving me crap about it. I think at some point the rules need to be tuned up to keep bodies from drifting to far away from what is already written....maybe add numbers and sponsors or race themes like VTA, at least that way its still looks like GT and not TC |
I'm pretty satisfied with the body rules. I can run a car that looks like a true, purpose-built racing car, and this appeals to me. I already have a car with an American muscle-car body (USVTA), and a car that looks like my wife's car (17.5 TC), so USGT lets me race something different. I haven't found an advantage to running something like the Corvette DP, and I don't do it to piss off anybody else, I do it because I like it!

I have a dp vette and hpi fd rx7. I ran both of them at the last club race, and ran the same fast lap, and the same amount of laps with both of them. They felt slightly different, but both were the same speed. Some ppl grumble about the dp vette, but I've gotten way more compliments on it than anything. It is nice to have a class that allows bodies that look like race cars. Not 4 different muscle cars, blob touring cars, blob wgt cars, wedge 12th scales. I really wish wgt would go to lemans/prototype bodies.

Bodies
At our track we use the Pirellie World Challenge cars as a guide. Most run the Porsche or 350z cars. We also have a couple M3's and a Viper. This way there isn't any confusion on what to or not to run. I run the Ferrari 458 and it does great with the HPI RS4 Sport3 chassis. I know if any of us go to a Big event most of our bodies are legal. I also understand different clubs allowing variations. Our GT class ( we have GT, GT-A and Porsche cup classes ) is the faster class using 13.5 brusheless motors. But again, this is our club not a national event. I think Robk has a great set of rules. There does need to be a standard set of rules for national/regional events. The main thing most racers forget is to HAVE FUN !!! Just my 2cents.:tire::tire:

I really don't know what the original intent of the USGT class was. My guess is to have a Sports Car look that is different from USVTA and the ROAR "T2".
The term "GT" has been used for a wide range of cars from luxury street performance cars to full on racing cars such as GTP. So that leaves a lot to personal interpretation. I also think this class was intended for 4WD Touring car Chassis'. Thus eliminating bodies designed for Pan Cars, simply because they won't fit most Touring cars because of the front shock tower. It also seems like the intent was to have realistic representations of actual existing cars, be it street or race. No "door stop" bodies made just for performance on an RC car. With all of that in mind, we make a range of bodies from a Mercedes DTM, to our MX-Stang to several Daytona Prototypes. All of which are Sports Cars that resemble actual existing full size cars and they all work on most Touring Car Chassis'. Since the class is called "US" GT, I might also add that it would seem odd to not have the top level of "US" Sports Cars....Daytona Prototypes, in the class. By the way, the Daytona Prototypes are American based cars and the RC bodies are made 100% in the U.S.A. |

I race toy cars hard to get upset about that, so if it fits the rules I feel the same way I felt about going out with my buddies hitting on ladies in college, I don't care what you bring home because I don't have to look at it in the morning. My current fleet includes a Panoz for WGTR even though I was told the pf10 and Porsche were the fast body, I thought about picking another Panoz up to paint as the bat mobile for usgt but there's a couple of guys who might cry about it even though it weighs over 40 grams heavier than any other usgt shell I have.

A real mixed bag. The rules are pretty complex to keep performance levels as equal as possible between such radically different cars. http://www.world-challenge.com/image.../2015-SEMA.pdf In my opinion there is absolutely no place for Daytona Prototype (or any other LeMans type prototype) bodies in the USGT or GT10 class. It's just not right and it makes no sense - even if there's been no perceived advantage to using them. By the time the shape of the DP's are fudged to fit the front shock towers under them and put molded-in rear wing struts on them they just look flat-out goofy. Flame me for having a strong opinion if you want - I don't really care. Dale Epp - Protoform |
Well, my point is that a Daytona Prototype, by its very name, is not a GT car. What cars do you see in the Blancpain GT series, the LeMans GTE AM or GTE Pro? I guarantee there's no LMP cars or DP cars. Heck, I dont even think that DTM cars are GT cars. I still have a Protoform Opel Calibra 1997 DTM body (unpainted!) and though it fits the rules, it just doesnt seem right to use it. That being said, Mr Epp, I really like the Ferrari 488 GT3..hint hint. =)

IMO, the Audi 190/200 from back in the days of Walter Rohrl/Hans Stuck is the ULTIMATE AWD GT car. Just wish that I could get one.........
