Removing the upper plate is only 4 screws... Not so painfull.
Anyway, on the second LpL Chassis, we have design the upper plate so you can remove the battery without unscrewing the plate.
here are some pics :

* Main Chassis 4mm longer.
* Advancement of the central shock absorber of 12mm.
* Fixation of upper deck in three points not offset for the best returns effort from the shock.
* Better maintains of battery pack.
* Possibility to set and remove the pack without removing plates.
* Weight distribution left / right ideal.
* A strut bar for the front end will complete the kit.
* Available soon (don't price for the moment)

I was wondering when/if this thread was going to get resurrected again....
I didn't have the ballz with the current "climate". I will just have to put AE or CRC stickers on it so I don't get punted!
It is a very good car, as good as anything else out there. It just takes a bit more time to acclimate to than a standard front end.
You will never have to worry about an ill handling car after a hit do to a front spring issue, and it is very durable (insert Naoto comment here ).
Just copy the rear set-up from a 5.1 and you will be good on that end.
Here is my R12 in its latest iteration with a CRC (oh the irony! ) shorty battery adapter to move things to the center more and in my opinion give a cleaner more modern look.
I have successfully put mine on pace with some of the fastest stock racers in the Midwest region.
Don't even bother with a car that does not have the inner spring arm conversion...
Tires can be a bit of a hassle, but if you don't mind mounting them yourself they are pretty cheap from Japan even with shipping (an order of 3-4 sets of front and rear donuts end up being around $6-7 a pair).
Good luck!

P.S. I do feel I should warn you the path to happiness is much quicker with a CRC/AE/On-point etc especially depending on your local.
