Weather held up long enough today to allow me to do some back2back... was testing out Proline Strat2 vs Mazda6, took 2 each to the track.

Conclusion is: Mazda6 gives better steering in stock position & handles beaut, but can get the same results by mounting the Strat2 about 6-8mm further in front.

Wierd thing with Mazda is... if one hit a small catseye, the car got airborne pretty easily! Not only that, once airborne it NOSEDIVES and it does a tail-over-nose tumble, wierd!! Nothing else has done that, the Strat2 just rides over the dot.

All that aerobatics mushes the poor rear wing.

(all testing done with EvoIII & derivatives)

hmm...couple of weeks ago there was this tiny little bump in the carpet at the end of the straight.

and on one lap i hit it at a moderate speed and it sent me flying.

i bounced about 2 meters and rolled about 6 times.

and this was with the mazda. and this broke a bevel gear on my pro4

is it because i was using the mazda or because i was unlucky?

I don't know.

EvoIII so the choice of bods has been Strat2 until 6 came along; I got them when the 1st batch arrived at xmas/03. But yeah, my wings and bodyposts have taken a beating.

Strat2 seems less nimble but more stable when hitting the cateyes (they're little 3" raised dots); 6 can takeoff or lose traction long enough to fly straight off the track when hitting dots but its got better steering to better place the car.

Can't wait to try Tamiya's new Liberty GT!! (aka Legacy B4)

Epic Binary2 Outlaw 19t are sweet...then again the Chameleon is really good for a machine wound...

Hi Guys,

That particular Tamiya body for right now from what I understand is only a Stratus body mocked up with Subaru details. When I looked really close to the front headlights at the show, you can see the mold lines for the stratus lights sticking out from underneath the subaru light stickers. I do think it's an excellent idea if they can make the body look like some other cars (using decals) while retaining the shape of a body that is working well (like the D.Stratus from Ride) The Ride MK-II and MK-III are the most popular body in Japan (both Stratus style body)

Ride do have a new body that they show at the Shizouka Hobby show which is an Acura TSX (Looked awesome, which I will post a picture as soon as I find it) and we are looking to bring in the Ride bodies as well (possibly under our own speed tech label)

Is that an Aero 2 Strat? The spoiler doesn't really look like the Proto 2.0

FYI: If you want a car that stays level when you hit the dots, get the Vaxhall Vectra....Good downforce/grip too...best body I've ever driven. I want another one

The vectra is a very nice body but it's not aggressive at all. It would be my pic for a large outdoor track. Imo the mazda 6 is aggressive and very stable at the same time. I need to get an alfa to I can compare it to the mazda.

I think Tamiya used a Ride D.stratus MK-II body.

Well...This is MY personal take on things.

I tune my car's suspension without the body. Once I'm happy with my car's handling while naked, thats when I slap the body on and do my final tuning run.

All I've EVER really noticed once I put the body on is increased stability at higher speeds and when entering a corner at higher speeds. As long as the body has a good rear wing on her and a round nose with front lower airdam...it's fine.

Personally I have had 3 different stratuses, an Alfa (<--- YUK!!! Ugly ass body) and now the Mazda 6 <---- LOVE THIS ONE !!!!

I think people will find if they tune their cars naked, in order to get the closest to optimal suspension/tire setup without the influences of a body, that they would be driving much better handling cars once they slap on the lexan. I've NEVER seen a body ruin a cars setup once slapped on after naked tuning...only add higher-speed stability.

Try it...You'll be suprised with the results.

hey guys,

i agree with iceman the stratus is great out-doors and neutral but in-doors on carpet the losi alfa is awsome, i run a tc3 and changed to the losi alfa and the grip/downforce was great,

just my 2cents worth guys
