we all ran this speedo at ETS in Heemstede we were all running gearing of 3.5 or lower , motors were warm and speedos didnt temp out , we had 32 dergees C weather that weekend too

I destroyed two over the weekend , 1 was as soon as it was plugged in , it smoked

Then in Quali i was just setting off and it went full throttle and then stopped

These were all preproduction models and over the weekend i think there was only 10 or 15 broken , this isnt bad saying there was 200 there

i havn't had any problems since with lack of power , i run one in my T3 sometines in out "stock" class and one in my Tc-02 buggy with a 10.5 SPv3 motor and no problems

mark did you keep your chassis out in the sun too? Because if so then I guess that can confirm that as the reason

A motor and speedo would still hit the same max temperature after a timed run regardless of it the motor was 90* (sitting on your bench) or 120* (sitting in the sun) before you hit the track.

With the Cirtix I am getting no more than 116-125degF motor temps and 110DegF esc after each 5min race. When im practicing for lets say more than 10 min, I can get my motor 160+ and esc at 120.

I would think that if you have an esc that has internal temp of 72 deg it would take a much longer time for it to reach 203 deg than an esc with an internal temp of 120 deg.

Since our esc could have been hot from the sun right before the race, couldnt you say that the esc had very little time before it reached thermal vs one that had a lower starting point?

I don't know what the thermal cutoff is for the Cirtix. The programming card for my SP2.1 shows the cutoff as 95*, in which case nobody should ever use the thermal protection anyways because 95* is way too conservative.

In the case of your normal temps being so low I guess sitting in the sun could have raised it some but it wouldn't be a dramatic difference.

I ran the club spec ESC w\ a 17.5 in RCGT this past weekend. Track was a 160ft straight (if you didnt lift for the kink at the end) and Saturday practice outdoor temps were nearing 100F. ESC ran flawless in these conditions.

Sunday's race temps were down into the upper 80's, and again no issues with the ESC.

Interesting that one tooth difference would do that.
Do you have the thermal protect turned on??????
If you watch the Video both our cars ran flawless.
Which car was yours????
Mine are the the Black,Green and White one and the Black,Yellow,Red and White one.
If i can lend you a hand let me know but maybe the fans and heatsinks on the motor helped out on the hot day.

What I do to heat up my tires is I went to Target and bought a tube of tennis balls for a couple of bucks and put my tires in the tube and set that out in the sun until the race before mine. Gets the tires heated up but not the rest of the car. YMMV

Ha, just looked at the results. I was the blue/white one chasing you. Was in 5th when it thermaled, looks like you got around me about 6 laps in. The car has plenty of speed on the front straight. I still don't see how charlie is gearing to 3.3 and not thermaling. One thing I noticed is the parking lot at Sonrise goes up hill on the straight. I ordered a decent temp gun, so I can get some readings off the can. I'll drop down to a 54 if needed.

The type of track, driving style of the person driving the car, and ambient temperatures can make a large difference in what FDR you can run.

I use 3.3 in both a track with 70x60 dimensions and 160x80. No issues. I never change gearing cuz im lazy. At Corona, the Plot is also up hill.
