Default Race Body Preferences

What would be a good race body for someone just getting in to electric racing?

I have done the driveway / backyard playing thing for a long time, but I am now going to do some actual racing. I have a XXX-S and will be running novice (rubber tires).

I never would have thought the body would really make that much difference, but I am being told it makes ALL the difference. I know most folks I see run the Stratus or the Alfa, but I like the looks of the Mazda 6. I heard that the Mazda 6 might produce too much downforce - what do yall think?

And where can I find a new model Intrepid or Taurus and NASCAR decals for my show body?

The stratus is probably the best choice for a new driver. It is the most neutral handling body. The mazda is a great body but might be a little twitchy. I would go with the Protoform Stratus 2.0.

the mazda 6 is a very aggressive shell and can be a bit hard to drive with if you dont get your driving right.

the dodge stratus is a good stable shell and if you are going to run novice then i would suggest this shell.

thats my part

If the M6 produces too much downforce then the Stratus produces lift (reverse downforce)

I'd STRONGLY advise anyone AGAINST getting the Stratus 2.0...If you have to join the bandwagon atleast get a older version of the Stratus (ie. Protoform Stratus 1.0, Andys Stratus) Now the older versions acutually have some downforce & good handling. Status 2.0 just feels like the car is going to fly off the ground every time you hit the throttle

I'm going to try out the MG soon. My limited $/dad limits me from trying more than one body in the duration of six months

the top drivers use the protoform stratus cause its neutral. but i preffer the losi alfa. it has tons of steering and rear downforce to make your car feel planted.

I STILL PREFER THE STRATUS FROM PROTOFORM, BOTH THE OLD AND THE 2.0 VERSION (2.1 FOR NITRO RACING)

Did you do the "cut, hole & shim" trick to your 2.0 or something? Cutting along the factory lines the body gets no grip & made my car feel & handle just like the time I drove the shop's cheap helicopter

I would suggest the stratus 2.0 or the alpha body but not the Parma alpha it's a great handling body but may offer to much steering for a newbie.

Please try not to misinform others without giving these bodies a fair shake. The Stratus 2.0 is a VERY good baseline body to go with. It is stable and has neutral handling for medium to large flowing tracks, there's a small hint of it not finishing turns very well but overall it is the "safe" bet. The M6 is aggressive but planted, very smooth throughout but just not as aggressive as the Losi Alfa. Of course, you can trim the M6 wing down but then it loses stability just about everywhere. I would suggest that you try out the top sedan bodies out there and learn what they do to your chassis as far as how they behave and pick the one that you feel most comfortable with at your track.

The protoform starus (old style) would be the best for a novice, it is a very easy to drive body.

I run the good ol Associated stratus body that comes with the RTR kits. I know it gets laughs, but I did make the A-main with it and its pretty thick stuff too. that style of body works quite well, I believe it is the original stratus body.

Anyone know if associated sells this body seperate? reason is the lexan is really thick which I like, would be a great beginner body.

Yeah thats the regular stratus. The only thing about that body that it is heavy from all the paint they use.
