Tamiya FF03

I agree with everybody and believe something needs to be done...sooner rather than later. Whatever everybody decides on is what I'll run. However, just within the last page of posts, already several brushless combos were brought up...none of which I have, nor are in stock locally and would cost money if I were to go and play with any or all of them. I am not going to go that route, I will wait and see what happens and will buy ONLY ONCE this time. None of this Sphere>GTB>SPX>RS plus motor of the week crap anymore...I've got better things to blow money on.
As for the fun race, I guess that's what happens when you have a decent chassis setup, plus newish Sorex 36Rs from the early 2000's (pre-compound change), an ultra-scienced-out silver can geared perfectly (thanks tuner-X!), and a so-so driver who may or may not crash atleast once during a race. I mean, that's a whole lot of perfect storm type evilness right there.

So Rod, you never ran any brushless setups? Offroad or onroad?
When we started using 21.5 in F1, I picked up a used LRP motor, $35 and paired it with a GTB that I had.
Surely would suck to have to kick for a whole combo to run in a stock class.
That's why some run the hot silver cans still.
Silver cans AND 21.5 mix well for us.
Silver cans only, has always been rough.
I don't want to buy a "This is what Tamiya will allow" combo either.

We run this set up on our track, tested in FF03 and works good.
No boost, sensorless, cheap, bulletproof, sensible speed and still fun to drive.

At 105 USD incl shipping it's not expensive at all. Good spec system that won't give anyone advantage!
We also run boosted, i got the Xerun 60A with Team Powers 13.5T for that.
Paid 85 USD for esc incl shipping and 60 USD for motor incl shipping in total 145 USD, that's not expensive either.

Comparing it to setting up a chassis?
Seriously?
C'mon Granpa, you're a bright guy and you know that is apples and oranges.
Don't want to argue with you Craig, but VooDoo is VooDoo no matter if it's applied to the chassis or the motors or the tire and insert combinations. And let's face it, it takes all three plus more to run like Rod does. If you don't believe me go back and read his last post.
Have you read the Tamiya article on Rod C's set up????? It took knowledge, brain power, persistance, hard work, and chassis VooDoo to come up with that stuff. Also $$$$ and a willingness to do all the Fussy, nitpicky stuff to keep his car performing. Don and Lee P are like that also. Maybe that's why they usually run up front.
Me, I'm a cheap SOB so I take care of the motors cause in the long run it's cheaper. The motor Danny used to win Mini this weekend was over three years old. Steve and Max were using motors that I believe I "tuned" a couple of years ago. You can usually find 540 Js for about $15, and if you clean them every 10 runs or so, $30 will cover your motor budget for the year.

Oh hi Stitchy! Any idea when the Citrix Jamba Juice combo will be back in stock? That combo with maybe a 21.5 seems like a VERY reasonable price point for me.
Cuda, I have a bunch of brushless stuff...but I haven't thought about how to do a clean install yet. With the exception of the tekin, all of my brushless speedos do not have form factors conducive to neat wiring jobs...more like rat nests

in the motor war,we been over this in mini and just like a mini,
You can have all the power you want, but if you can't drive it whats the pointless!! I don't like motor rules and to say a brusless sys. is cheap??yea right!most of us are don't have a extra 150.00 to throw at a 200.00 car.driver will find a edge.
any type of racing drivers and crews will find that extra bit to WIN!!!!!
This is racing people are going to find a advantge that the way it is,and many of us have been doing this for years and know what to do and what not.
trying to level the playing field is like making the middle east to get along.
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!Thats Racing!!

I'm not against silver cans.
I guess I have to accept the fact that when the only motor allowed is silver cans, it's a modified class and not a stock class unless specified.
So I either need to step up and put the "knowledge, brainpower, persistence, hardwork and voodoo" into one or just pass on the race for that day.
Or send $55 to get one shipped from a reputable tuner.
All this is, of course because there is still the belief that "silver can only" racing is still the way to get new racers into the sport as cheaply as possible by telling them it's a $20 motor and the racing will be closer this way.
Drop the "only" part, pick a maintenance free motor size limit and let em pick.
It'll actually be fair.
Can always have silver modified and silver stock classes too.
Now a more important issue to argue about:
Is the standard Gatorade green or yellow?
Surveys show that most men see green and nearly all women see yellow.
Me, if it has any green tint to it, it's a green

Thanks, Craig -- you made me crave Gatorade. Soooooo, I was just at the store buying Gatorade (lemon-lime of course) and there was "Lemonade" which varied by a couple of ingredients but only maybe 1% to 2% in color, if at all. Then there was "Rain Lime" which was bright radioactive green and clearly deserves the green designation. So yellow it is I guess.
