Ebay calipers--worth the cost
 

I am in need of a set of calipers for checking com diameter and tire diameter in 12th, among other things. I checked Ebay in the Radio Controlled section and there are a few from $16-$34. All seem to have similiar specs, but the problem is I don't really know what to look for. Are these worth the cost? Will I be able to get the readings I need with them? Are there any general specs I should consider when looking at calipers? Thanks in adavance.

I got one from Ebay...6" digital and works great..very accurate.
features are pretty much the same mm/inches..etc. It's a bargain at $20.00

Go for em. Unless your milling parts with high tolerances then I wouldnt worry about it.

I have one of the Ebay ones and they're pretty accurate. I measured against the Mituyos(sp) that a fellow racer has. We measured a couple of different comms, springs etc and both measured exactly the same. We differed slightly on foams, but I attribute that to the foams being squishy :) For $20, awesome!

Everyone I know has the Harbor Freight digital calipers. $20 bucks for a decent set of calipers with an extra battery in the box is pretty good deal.

Stumper couldn't have said it better. If you aren't milling parts with high tolenances I wouldn't worry about it. He's right. The cheap ones we all use do just fine measuring coms, etc. :tire:

I bought a 4" digital caliper from ebay and it works very well. It's accurate and well built so no complaints from me.

I got 6" from E-bay for under $30. If youre looking at them, make sure that the ones you buy have a "thumb roller" to make minute adjustments easy. Other than that, you can't beat the price with a free battery to go with. :D

i bought one of the digital ones off ebay about almost three years now ,, still works great. well worth the 20 bucks i spent on it, use it all the time to measure my tires , body post hieghts , ect.

cheap calipers are alright....even measuring high tolerance items you just gotta measure 3 or 4 times to figure out which number is real...personally i like sterrett digital...they are bout 150-200

I just got a pair off of Ebay. So far so good. Much better than the "dial" calibpers I've been using for years!!

Yeah, I got one off ebay for my foams, and it works like a charm! :D

Not using a caliper for high tolerances, unless you don't have choice because of dimensional constraints of course...
