What 27 Mhz AM Receivers work with Kyosho Perfex radio?
#1

Here is the deal, I'm helping some new people get involved with the sport. Where we are located in Northern California (Weed, CA) we can end up with snow or rain at any time.
So the plan for the club is race outside when it is nice with 1/10th scale and race inside with Mini-zs when the weather is bad.
So as I am helping people get started, I am trying to save them the trouble of having multiple radios. I need to know what AM 27 Receiver can go in a 1/10 TC and will work a Kyosho Perfex radio.
I just don't want there to be compatiblity problems. The Kyosho Perfex radio is what comes with Mini-z cars.
Are the crystals interchangeable between Kyosho, Airtronics, Futaba etc? It is a tough question, and they is why I came to the most knowledgeable group of RC users on the web!

yeah...If I'm not mistaken Airtronics/JR/KO are negative and the Futaba/Hitec positive shift crystals. That's why Hitec makes a Dual Conversion receiver in order the user to be able to use different type of transmitter without being tied down to just same manufacturer's receiver.
Hopefully someone can confirm me on Perfect being Futaba based. If there is another reason why i would say that is because Futaba and Kyosho are under the same distributor in the US: Great Planes.

The Kyosho Perfex is an AM 27MHz radio, there's no
issues with +ve/-ve shifts and all that jazz.
Kyosho has rebranded other manufacturer's TXes. There are 2
versions... the older "skewed" 1st one is an Acoms Technisport
(aka JR Panther). The current 2nd "upright" model is what was
sold as the KO EX9 many years ago. These are both simple AM
entry-level radio sets.
Any brand's AM 27MHz receivers will work just fine.
(the Acoms has servo reverse switches, dunno about the KO)
One issue you might want to watch out for is cost.
Price of buying a RX + 2 servos is usually dearer than buying
a full basic stick radio set eg Futaba Attack. I would usually
recommend buying the stick set then using your wheel TX.

I'm actually using a Kyosho Perfex Radio(I believe these are made by KO) with an old Futaba Receiver, no problems.
I was always led to believe there were not the compatability problems with 27mhz am as there are with the 75 band.
Just my experience...

Kyosho are under the banner of the Asahi conglomerate, entirely Japan based. Asahi also does a tonne of other things, including
brewing a decent beer or 3.
Acoms is also another Asahi company.

Keep everything AM & on the 27MHz band and there will be no dramas.
btw there are only 6 main freqs in the 27Mhz band (26.995-27.255).
Modern gear has "splits" which adds another 6 (7?) freqs, but
sometimes these can cause and/or receive interference from
others on a nearby freq.
Interference will be more pronounced when you use mixedbag
radiogear and some older radiogear aren't very narrowband.
If you experience glitching and interference, stick to the main 6 channels.

So that sounds like good news. Since I have servos already, and have assorted 27 crystals, airtronics RX, and a Perfex radio, then it sounds like we are good to go.
Awesome.
Thanks, sounds like one more person will be able to race with us the 24th!

Whatever happens outside America is completely on Kyosho Hands and yes I wish Kyosho do the same thing here in America too, look at Tamiya's success here

You have got to love Radio Shack for that. What do people know about X-mods, cool or crud? That is good to know that they can at least run on different channels. I was wonder if Radio Shack was going to do the old thing, where you could buy the two different colors of cars and one would be set at 27 and the other 49.
