LOL, i thought the same thing. I went to take the shields off and bent the sh!t out of them!! Good thing that was one spare that I thought to buy in the beginning. I then tried another with less force but no less did the same thing.

Wassup Fraz?
I didn't even bother removing the shields. A great investment is the Integy Sparkle thingie. You fill the thing with motor spray and throw all your bearings in it. It vibratrates the crap out of the bearings and all the bad stuff gets shuffled to the bottom. You save on motor spray and labor. You don't need to remove the shields on the 5x9 metal shielded bearings since there is enough of a gap to vibrate all the goo out.

What up Ling? You need to come out and play with us. I've got a Stockton setup that is on fire for the Evo4.

Yeah, I've owned the Integy Sparkle for a long time and it works ok. I think the RPM bearing blaster is quicker and works just as good. Since I just got ceramics I thought I would screw around and try removing all of the shields from my older bearings. I just wanted to see if I could get my drivetrain as free as Lex' :)

5x9 Bearing Shield Removal

hey guys.. i remove the shields everytime i rebuild.. and it IS possible to remove the shields for the 5x9 bearings. all you need is a brand new xacto blade and use the tip to remove the clip. then use the knife to carefully remove the shield. it takes a few minutes the first time, but once you get it, its a breeze. THEN i throw all the bearings into the integy sparkle thingie. :D

Hey Chris... how's it goin'? Any way you can post a digital pic all zoomed in showing where the clip is? I have tried a new blade and everything and I still cannot see it for nothin'.

The integy sparkle thing is the best thing I ever got for cleaning bearings :D

Hell with that I want looking ggod and working good as well. Having a cool car is cool but having a nice painted lid for on it just makes it that much better.

If you don't want to draw any attention then just paint the orange popsickle with white Can stripes and no one will notice the ill handling car!!!!!!!!!
