I orded some 5200, 50c,7.4 volt..and out of 2..1 was faulty..real bad..The balance red wire wasnt even solded on..and when i charged.,.it swelled big time.. Still waiting replacement
That went in the bin..

Now Ive orded a 5400.50c.7.4v...and the packet has been opened and resealed?
I wont open/touch until I get a reply...

Ive contacted SMC and RC-Market.....Im not very happy with the SMC range that comes out of HONG KONG.....are the SMC that come out the USA better? they are at least $50 more expensive?
Ive contacted RC-MARKET..and talking to asians..well forget.it...By the time i send back..do all the bullsh%t,,its not worth it..
Has any one else had this problem? Or is only me?.
Mike
I can't even begin to count the number of 2s and 1s SMC packs I have seen swollen recently. Including 4 of my own 4900 1s packs I know were well cared for and only 4 months old. My solution is to use a different manufacturer.

I had two 1S 4900 swell up while in the car during a heat.

Switched to Reedys and haven't had a problem yet.

At least SMC replaced the swollen ones.

I have two SMC 3200 28c spec packs where he balance plug did not work. On one pack you can pull the black wire out and see a clean cut.

I never contacted SMC though, so that is where I failed

Didn't have to store them. This is the indoor season so all the batteries are used each week.

I bought them from Nexus Racing in the USA.

They puffed second time out, both in the same day on Qualifier 2 and the Main. Both charged, both came off at 3.7V after the run. SMC did replace them since both were purchased less than a month before the puff and raced on once before puffing.

I haven't tried them yet and they're still in the package.

I have 4 of the SMC 4900 single cell batteries and two of the SMC 5200 single cell batteries all purchased from RC-Market. Two of the 4900 batteries puffed but only because I abused them. The other batteries are working just fine after many charge/discharge cycles. Make sure your charging equipment is set up properly.

They had both puffed on the same day after running a heat, not after charging or during a charge. The charger is an iCharge which requires a cell verification before engaging thereby eliminating user error. We run 8 minute qualifiers and 8 minute mains. Both packs were fully charged when placed in the car, both had good voltage when removed after the heats but were puffed.

They probably would have puffed regardless of using the finest and best charger available.

Needless to say that this is all behind us now and I have two new packs to use as a back-up (but I had to make a 3.5 to Deans adapter) to my Reedys.

so is this a problem with the product or with the seller?

if it's from the product then it's unfair to point fingers at rcmarket.

i have no comments on the re-sealed products though....

My reply.

HI...I contacted Danny Sullivan and heres a copy of the email he sent back..

Quote from SMC" It seems like the packaging was open and you should ask them why it was opened as we can't control this."

What I want to know is why the Battery came to me with the packet opened and re sealed..Doesnt look new to me?
I want a NEW-UN opened pack..
Look at the pics...and tell me why it is like this?
Mike

Ill try again..If no luck Iwill take paypal action..I think they do need a wake up call..

I have never had a problem with RCMarket and I will most likely be flamed for saying this but I would not touch SMC with a barge poll. I have never seen more hype and crap spread than by the SMC brand. SMC used to recomend dead shorting your NiMH cells, and it worked great for them, it allowed them to sell more cells when dead shorting killed them.

SMC listen to this, if you cannot charge the night before then your cells are shit, and dont think for a minute that I believe in the hype of superior technology. I have seen SMC in the flesh and they provide good power but if the hype is true the .01% increase in perfomance is simply not worth it.

Brand hores feel free to flame away but hype is not what I buy into!!
