Esc ?

I have a OLD Novak ESC. It is a Hammer Pro with the current limiter. It has very very little use. My question is; is it any good, quality wise? I am buying a new (to me) car and want to know if my esc is any good??? Any suggestions

well, if you are getting a new car, and would like an ESC to suit it, then I would upgrade, especially if you are planning on running more that a stock motor...
check out Ko speedos, site link in my sig below my post, or if you do not want to go that route (money wise), then there are a bunch of cheaper speedos out there

New car w/ old speedo? Only if you want a Mazda RX8 and ask for the V-4 mini van engine!!! (LOL) Go ahead and upgrade, there are lots of inexpensive, but worth it ESC's out there.

Like which ones? I am in the same position as Malibulsv, and I really don't need a GT7 or the like. I have been looking all over the place. Like: MTroniks, Duratrax Intellispeeds, Futaba?????

The important things is internal resistance and if it can handle the number of turns on the motor you want to drive. Also look after BEC voltage. If it's only 5 volt, your steering servo will be 25% slower than with 6 volt.

If you have the space to put it in the car, (i know its rather large), then don't upgrade. It still is a very good esc. Don't always believe the hype! I don't know what people have to gain by telling you you need to upgrade.
Just mount it in the car. If you find that after a few races your esc isn't up to par, you can always upgrade then. For now i would use the money to get some good battery's or extra tires.
my 2 cents

Yes, some of the older ESC's are still really good, but it depends on which ones. If you go back far enough, they were designed with 1800 NiCd's as the top of the line battery and the motors were half of what they are now. Older technology is still reliable, but based on other older technology and might not be compatable with today's stuff.

I think that ESC is still good. The specs arn't bad at all. Keep it and see how it works out with the new car first. Only problem is that it doesn't show what motor limit the esc can handle (maybe im just blind).

Never use an out-of-date esc in this time world my friend. It's even more hi-tech than u remembered it. Try getting the LRP IPC 7.1 or Competition Pro.

ya... you don't need latest & greatest just to get your car moving,
except maybe only when you get onto the World Champs A-grid.
Anyone who tells you that you do is either an ESC salesman
or totally disillusional with too much ca$h to burn.
Hammer has good specs... probably better on paper than the
current crop of low-mid range ESCs like Fusion & Explorer2.
Compared with latest, your main worry is 1) size & 2) weight.
New ones are user-programmable, but that's not a huge benefit
unless you're into serious racing.
Use it for now, and if/when it ever carks it Novak has the best
customer service EVER. You just send it back to them with a
cheque and you can tradeup to a latemodel Novak ESC.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the oldies... could even be better than newies.
I don't think I'm the only one who thinks the GT7's specs are
inferior to the its cousin Cyclone... now that's a groundbreaking
little cube of orange. It is now 8 yrs old!!

Year, many of the older ones still rocks! I'm racing with the old LRP v7.1, and it races fine and is almost unbreakable !
That Hammer specs looks good. Compared to the LRP Pro Sport, the internal resistance is almost equal, same goes for size and amp rating. But the BEC is way better and the Hammer can handle 10 cells, while the Pro Sport only handle 8 !
So the Hammer just beated a 95$ ESC ( Tower ) !
Compared to a Quantum Pro Sport, the Hammer has a higher IR (0,0014 versus 0,00073). At 20 amps, that's a voltage drop of 0,028 volt for the Hammer and 0,0146 for the Quantum. I believe that the difference equals one bad soldering.
Of course the Quantum is smaller and ligther, but the amps rating is 80/155, while the Hammer got 120/300. The Quantum has a 7 yutn motor limit, while the Hammer aint got any limit.
And again, the BEC is way better, meaning the steering servo will be 25% faster than with the Quantum. On top of that, at Tower, the Quantum Pro Sport is 140$.
So go out and give all the hyper guys some Hammer hard racing !
