C'mon now fellas. Ease up on the kid! I don't think he made the claim that his car could go 70mph.

Now the web page don't want to come up. He claims everything is overgeared and a policeman clocked 70.2

I race at a track where the race director does a great job of encouraging rookies to get into racing. I really commend his efforts since new blood is the future of our hobby/sport. He's obviously excited about his car, and I think that's a good thing. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now. I didn't see that post in the HPI board! Just for the record, I see no reason why a pancar can't achieve 70MPH. In fact, the world speed record in an RC car was done in a pancar and it was over 100MPH. I don't remember all of the details. If any of you keep an eye on the Team Joybox website, you've probably seen pictures from their races in velodromes. They use pinion gears the size of a typical spurgear and I would bet that they regularly see speeds around 70MPH in F103's. I was looking for some of their pictures last night, but couldn't find the ones I've seen in the past.

Anyways, I'm not trying to defend the guy, I just have a problem with people bagging on him. I can remember a time when I was enamored with top speed and figured my car must be able to go 60+ MPH. Then I saw 1/10 scale nitro on-road cars hitting an estimated 40MPH and realized that my perception was way off! I prefer the approach of education over flaming.

So what were we talking about beofre this? Oh yeah. F1 Racing. How about Jenson Button, eh? Pretty impressive run for him in Sepang. He wasn't giving up much to JPM in the straightaways. It was nice to see someone other than MS standing on 1st place podium.

Everybody has been behaving themselves very well, and its been really fun. Check it out.

No problem. The more people talking F1 the better!

The reason I started it was because it seemed impossible to find a good F1 forum without all the profanity and argueing. So I figured this board would be a safe place to do it since its well moderated.

Thankfully though, no moderation has been needed so far.

Plus, we RC racers are much more mellow than those hardcore 1:1 scale guys. Hey! wait a minute... I am one of those hardcore 1:1 scale guys! I can't remember a more awesome weekend of racing. Sebring on Sat, F1, IRL and NASCAR on Sunday. I'm not much on the oval stuff, but they ESPN had no problem filling 30 minutes of airtime on RPM Today.

Here are some of the details:

Car was driven by Cliff Lett
It was a modified RC10L3O outfitted with a custom chassis to hold 24 1000mAh cells.
The car was powered by a 2 turn Aveox brushless motor
Pinion/Spur 28/69
Final Drive Ratio 2.46:1
Weight 74 oz.
Top speed 111 mph. Apparently if the track was a bit bigger they could have gone even faster.

They outfitted the TC3 with 14 2400 matched cells.
Ran all of them off a LRP 7.1 with a reciever pack.
"A saiko racing machined motor can with super strong neodymium magnets and a Reedy 10-turn double armature produced the rpm needed to propel the TC3 to near-buck speeds" (RCCA pg118)
Pinion/spur 44/88
final drive ratio 4.5:1
Weight 72.5 oz.
Top speed - 96.4 mph

Default I knew

I could count on you, thanks man. Hated that we couldn't race this past weekend. I need to put my F-1 on the track with this new gear ratio to see how it will do. I also switched out RS 540's. I had a nicely broken in one we'll see how it holds up.

100 / 25 = 4.0 FGR

psycho - your running a MVP correct? What FGR are you running on a track with a long straight away

I was so ready to race. I need to just get that car on the track to see how it runs...I've only done speed runs down the street....its FAST! Thinking about running 4 cells because I got a 20 minute run time on a half charged 3000 pack .
