I was searching for someting and came across this old thread and thought HMMMm...
How crazy am I by comparison.
I think I rate up there (but 38 yrs of RC does let you collect some junk).

Here's my toy collection.
I think this is most of them.
Probably missed some as a lot are still packed after my move 2 yrs ago.

These are most of the cars I have at the moment.
There are probably 2 or 3 times as many that I've owned on moved on from whether they were no good or maybe just didn't float my boat. I always have 2 chassis of anything I race and usually just keep 1.

Tamiya TRF F102 My newest aquisition so it's at the top.
Tamiya EVO III Surikarn
Tamiya TA-05
Tamiya Tamtech Porsche 934 1/12th

FG Big Monster 5th scale 4wd 30.5cc with bling and VW Body
A few cheap Touring cars for the nephews to run when they visit.
A couple of Turnigy buggies for the same.

That's the cars I think they are all runners with servos, esc's and motors.
Then there's lot's of other related toys...

About 6-7 planes
Several hundred Die Cast and plastic models. Most unbuilt. (every Tamiya 1/20th GP car)

And of course a room full of bits and a shed full of tools to keep it all going.

Couldn't tell you which ones he's got

But a friend of mine has 100+ model cars he's acquired over time. He only used around 4 however.

I've tended to get into it for a while and then go onto something else and only bash then get enthused again and so it goes.
I try to keep the good cars, I get a strange feeling of satisfaction picking up a model and knowing it's a quality item and still enjoyable.
In fact I just totally rebuilt my 1991 RC10 Graphite and I'm as happy with it as any of the "super" cars I own. It has been the loaner that I'd give to someone who wants to have a go, so it's done more mileage than all the others put together I'd say.
Doing the F1 and LMP pan car thing at the moment so this summer (coming soon for us in OZ) will be outdoor asphalt.

I always buy 2 when I race so I can work one setup against the other and so I've always got spares if the shunt is too big when I move on I rebuild one to mint and shelve it and sell the other. Sometimes I've sold off both but now I keep one.
The build and setup is a big part of the challenge to me and to go and revisit some of the cars is a bit of a trip.
I'm doing the RC10L2 at the moment and it's been sitting for 15 years.

Your approach is very sensible! I just find it comical and a bit concerning when a guy has 20+ cars thats been sitting on the shelf collecting dust—but who am I to judge!

They all get driven a little bit. It's not uncommon for me to take 6-8 cars with me when I go out and whilst I'm really working with one (tomorrow it is the 1/5 scale Baja 5B) I'll take the Dark impact, one of the RC10T's and The E-Maxx as well.
The only ones that don't get a real run are the very old collectables and I don't run Nitro much. I live in a Rural area and the closest place to get Nitro is 50 minutes in the opposite direction of my normal trips to to town.
Having a few acres helps, then you can have a dirt course in your backyard.

This thread makes me feel better about myself and my "collection." Feels less like a hoard.

Then again, I do currently have 7 that are all assembled and functional. Charge batteries and go.

All of mine exept 5 or 6 that are still in boxes only need a Battery to run.
They all have calibrated speedos and trimmed servos. I take them off the shelf, put a battery in and match the controller. That's ALL 56 of them, so far.
If I can't be bothered to keep it running and drive it then I will lose it.
They are all special.
I've found a few since I wrote that list so maybe another 5-6 and there's boxes full of bits that might make some more. I've got a nearly finished blinged out TA-05 and an old Yokomo Dogfighter (Chain drive) that need a few bits or some time on the lathe.
A box or two of RC10L bits that will make a few cars with a few $.
Most just have a 540 and cheap esc's but some have correct top end period gear. You'd be surprised how fast a well set-up '93 Worlds RC10 is against a comp level B4 with the same powertrain.
It's a bit like women and Jewellery, I can't wear it all but I have to have it and keep it and if I must, I'll sell this to get that.
