thanks for the reply, a racer who knows a lot more then me about rear drive and ball diffs told me more then likely my diff was not built right, but in the rush of a race day we didnt get the chance to pull it apart so i think it is the diff, i know the last outing before a rebuid it went dead straight under power, but thank you anyway i will check my tweak, but once again if anyone has any diff building tips please feel free to share them.
cheers

Sometimes the answer is just as simple as it's not tight enough?

I Prefer Cyrul's approach to diff building.

Here is CRC's method.

Aaand finally, IRS's tech tips has several tips related to diff building.

Hope this helps!

Falling in love with driving my recently accuired 12th scale.

Questions:

14 gauge wire okay for 4.0 motor?

My purchase came with many tires, but pink rear and black fronts are the recommended tires for my track. Would truing and using grey/magenta/pink rears be beneficial to practice or would those compounds throw off the feel of the car. I dont see myself traveling to other tracks, so this quiver of tires is just taking up space. Basically, should I just donate them or practice with the extras?

Do you guys think 16ga wire is big enough for 1s/17.5?

Yes

16g is the std for 12th scale, so yes

tommy911t 07-28-2014 10:04 AM

Thanks you, Tech Champion.
I'm going to interpret that as as "Yes, donate when possible and practice when you can."

The 12th scale mysteries continue to unravel...

A commonly overlooked cause to this is the left side hub being on too tight. You need to have a slight bit of play in the rear axle otherwise the rear bearings bind. Since both rear bearings are on the left side of the diff...it will cause the car to pull left.

A look into Masami Hirosaka's rc life.

tommy911t 07-28-2014 10:48 PM

That video with Masami is amazing and pure rc...
At 44 min in the second video, the Tekin tech simply says, "too much power."

I wish I spoke thier language or even knew the context, but the Tekin tech's facial expression is priceless.

ive heard of people using o-rings as spacers and a cushion for the axle? is this worth trying or not to bother. just stick with the little bit of play

I have not tried this but it would seem to me that a rubber o-ring would create a fair amount of drag.
