Probably a dumb question. Any idea what size diff balls the rw spur gears take? I assume it's 1/8.
|
i run the X-ray x12 2014 and i have run up to a 105mm rollout with no issue using a 72 or 73 tooth spur!

What I forgot to mention is tyres. I'm using Ulti Hard front, and Ulti Soft rear. Speedmind 30R and 32F works well too and lasts a bit longer.

What the pros and cons of a inline set up vs a transverse set up?

I'm currently running the S120LTX 17.5 blinky and find it difficult to find small enough spur since the motor plate has very little room for adjustment. While I really like the car, be prepared to figure out the gearing option if you will be running 17.5 blinky or others that require 100+mm rollout.
Anyone know where I can find 70T or 71T 64P pan car spur gears? PRS makes a 71T but I can't find it available anywhere. You can order direct from their website, but the 70t isn't listed for some reason. Maybe email them? |

Xenon makes a 70t spur gear... I believe it takes the smaller 3/32" balls, though.

Different track, cars, and driver preference will decide Inline should be more stable, Transverse can have more rear weight bias, and possibly be on the aggressive side, but as Martin Crisp says, sometimes the opposite is true :D |
When I went from inline to traverse in my xray, I expected it might get more aggressive, but rear became more planted and it just felt nicer to drive.
My laps times improved a lot after making that change! |
This may be anecdotal evidence but the most mellow 1/12 car I have ever driven is my CRC Gen-XL with the battery transverse in the rearmost position. For a while (when my local HS was still in business...) this was my lend-a-ride for people who had never driven a 1/12 car before, but this was on medium-low traction and not tacky grip.
However, both my transverse Xti and my transverse XL suffered massively on grip. When I ran my super-mellow transverse car at the 2012 IIC, the handling was great and the only thing holding them back was me. At the 2013 IIC they were both GARBAGE on that tacky rug. I still haven't figured out why but this year I will have a rolling, ready-to-race inline car in my bag just in case. |

I just changed from the orion R10 esc to the hobbywing V3.1 to save some chassis space.
Eliminated the external caps and the external switch. Also changed the wiring to 14g batt and 16g motor wires with motor tabs extensions. No more wiring tweaking! The hobbywing delivers a much smoother power than the orion. Liking it so far! |
I'm assuming you tin the entire length of the larger gauge wire that you're using as a joint.?
|
no, they are not wires. Check this link:http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=132258
They are KO propo motor tabs |

1/8 balls in all Xenon gears, Teru said he is working on a 68T 64p gear as well

I didn't want to look as far back as page 3 for this thread next time, so I'm posting.
Has anyone had any experience with the latest spec Xray car on asphalt? If so, how does it compare to others? |
