Are the new and old CRC spings the same part numbers?

Forgive me, I just started with a 1/12 and don't know how to differentiate new vs old. What spring comes with the XTI?

Novak Impact looks like a nice compact little unit. What are your thoughts on it?

I'll be running 21.5 2 cell in 1/12 so I wont be needing the 1s booster cap.

Which brand of modified motor does people run and why ?
I have LRP X20 and Novak both 4.5t. LRP is just more powerful in tourque and rpm. But very power hungry which hurt the battery. Novak has lot less tourque and rpm but run lot longer and cooler.

What about yours ?

From what I have seen, mod is a pick-a-color-and-go thing. I personally have run a Revtech 3.5 turn in 1/12 scale and besides changing the axle to one with a 96 tooth spur, I only need to put a fan on my ESC (LRP Stock Spec V2) to run without issues. To reduce motor demand on the ESC or battery I gear down a tooth or so, 26-27 / 96 for about 36mm of rollout seems to be where it wants to run, I also run the motor on 'neutral' timing on the can hash marks and it stays really cool even after 8 minutes, never getting higher than 105-110 degrees. This setup drew about 5500mah of power in Las Vegas, where I was way off pace due to traction roll issues but had a lot of fun.

For what it's worth, I have also found that the motor will be a little more power hungry at medium traction (like weekend racing levels of grip) than on high/extreme traction.

I'm no expert, but whatever feels better is usually faster. Power is only helpful if I can hang on!

esc/booster question

What esc's can you use and not run a booster , also what will happen if you run with an esc that does not need a booster? Also what gauge wire should I be using?

For lubing the kingpins and gooping the tubes, I have always used Shurlube. Anyone know how the colors would be classified by weight?

Troy,
The Xti should come with the latest CRC springs, yes, a running part change but not the numbers. If you have any doubts, just measure the wire diameter or count the coils and compare it to the chart I posted.

Does not "need" or "have"? We only run into trouble getting all the electronics to work when we use a 1S pack. If you do not run a booster on 1S, the car will run for a few minutes and start to brown out. Your PT will stop counting. You will loose control. As the pack voltage dips below, say.... 3.5v'ish.... usually out of the hole under acceleration.... things stop working.

16g is fine for stock, 13g for 13.5 & mod. I like TQ, very soft!

Thanks buddy, I knew that much:lol:. Been using this stuff forever; I just don't know how it compares to the 10-30K folks are using nowadays. Nothing substitutes for experimentation at the track tho;)

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Figures...
I actually missed the last sentence in ur post but had already hit submit;)
Yeah, that's the ticket!

I'll just read from now on.:D

Guys!
I am at the mercy of many good people around me. We have a crew in the NW that gel ideas, talent, and race results into real workable data. I've been sitting on a spring chart for a week that I feel is really interesting material that I was dying to leak out. Data that manufacturers may lead us to believe is a linear progression when in fact it's just calculated guesses. Here's what I found. We are not working with springs that make even jumps in progression. We are working with what we have available. I have to thank my web guy Wes for taking time out of his busy week to put this data together and post it up online for us to see.

My measurement concept is simple: we do not use more then 80% of the throw of a spring. So, simply take that measurement in grams at 80% compressed of total length. I have also included in this chart, the coil wraps and measurement of wire thickness. The wire thickness includes whatever coating or paint that came from the manufacturer and I did not strip these springs to the wire. Some of the thicknesses do not make sense in some stat's. These stats are simply here for you to compare what you may have to what I recorded.

I the near future, I hope to include: Serpent, VBC and Xray as they become available to me for testing.

Of course this chart can be found on: www.slapmastertools.com

Enjoy!

Brian

Thank you for the chart. I was wondering if it could be updated with part numbers. Thanks again for the great work and info.

Slapmaster6000 11-11-2013 09:26 PM

Part #'s are the same for CRC, so that is going to be confusing. I'll see. If I can gather that easily, I'll add it.

I have a big race at Timezone2 this weekend. I hope to have access to several makes of springs I can add. If you are not doing anything, come on by. Take a few laps. Or check out the action on LiveRC!

Hey Brian,

Do you have a spreadsheet that you can share? I want to add a column for spring rate for my own use, and I'm too lazy to copy all the numbers over.

idbdoug 11-12-2013 03:15 AM

How does crc chrome fronts relate to their black fronts? Softer, Harder, more or less grip, etc
Thanks
idbdoug
