the track that my store has is a very high grip asphalt, and we just got started running a 12th scale class (stock and mod) and most guys have been happy with running their caret tires (purple and greys) up until now, people want to start branching out in tires.
just wondering what the starting point in tires is for asphalt and what tires to stock besides purple and grey. much thanks. peter |
CRC !:sneaky:

I did some looking around, and CRC says that "all parts are completely compatible with associated 12lc/l3. Wouldn't that make them technically the same car?
|
No, if you look at them the rear suspensions are way different.

wheel diameters are the same, tire & wheel diamteres are different, should be between 3mm and 5mm difference front to back, front being smaller.
how about all you guys posting some pics of your pride and joy pan cars? i like looking at other people cars. all cars welcome! lol, and your bodies too, im trying to think up a signature paint scheme! matt rice |
peter- the standard issue for aspalt is normally purple and pinks (pinks being softer than greys, so it gives the car a more stuck, less nervous feeling). at the paved nats last week i ended up running granite rears (which are basically whites with a hard outside edge, similar to the way plaids are with sedan tires) however they wore very fast and really arent a good solution.
i would try to make purple fronts (or double pinks if you need ALOT of steering) with pink rears work. it should provide good tire life and traction. the thing alot of guys spend time experimenting with is tire compounds. i found that paragon works pretty well on asphalt, although alot of guys still use suntan lotion, or a wide variety of trinity traction compounds (they make 5 dozen of them, lol) sushi/kong- the CRC 6 pack is a t-bar car that uses AE t-bars, front end and rear bulkhead (with their own axle, but like all non-corrally 12th scales its interchanglable). the cars use different chassis and basically all different graphite piecies. the 6 pack does not have the disks, instead it has damper tubes and the ability to use side springs (although if you want your car to handle well, do not install them, and this tip comes directly from a cleveland winner in mod 12th scale who ran the car when he won) as far as which car i would suggest running... -asphalt: corrally (the thing is just stuck, but whatever you do, dont run it on carpet, it is awful) -carpet: speedmerchant rev. 3 (for reasons discussed a thousand times over in recently past pages) i would only run a t-bar car if i ran mod, in stock on carpet cars with side links absolutly dominate (knife and rev. 3). |
stormperson: I know Smyka's done quite well running the Springs rather tha tweak screws in the T-bar. I know that you cant run both the screws and the springs, otherwise you'll never be able to set the tweak properly.
|
Smyka has done quite well! :)
I guess i missed something then when it was explained to me, lol. however smyka runs stock where you can get away with a stiffer rear end, so that could probably explain the possible difference between tweak screws and side springs, or it could just be personal preference. |

Actually if you run orange or blue side springs you're set-up significantly softer than even an .063 T-bar with screws. My best friend's a Six-pack driver, and we've done some heavy testing to see which way works better.

Impact - where is your local track?

The Track in Gaithersburg, MD...... Most guys run either the 6-pack with a .075 t-bar and screws, or the L3 with dampertubes..... a few run the Corally (heavily modified, Switchblade, or Yokomo.....very few run the carpet knife or REV.3......
I feel the advatage ofthe T-bar is that it makes the rear suspension "snap back' much quicker than the tweak springs..... I have tried my 6-pack with the srings and it felt a little sluggish during quick transitions...... However on sweepers it felt more planted, and easier to drive. BTW: I am planning on triing the Rev.3 this winter when Hobbytown opens their carpet track...... but will keep my BR 6-pack/Yokomo hybrid...... and my Brother will be getting a 1/12th.... I'm not triing t stir "stuff" just stating the facts (from the track) and my opinion on the feel of the car.... |
impact: If the Car felt sluggish, the side springs you were running were too soft. Wolfe goes all the way up to purple, which are extremely stiff. Which springs did you run?
