Speedmerchan/12L3

If you are talking about the Rev 3 then the biggest difference between it and the 12L3 is the T bar. The Speedmerchant doesn't have one, it uses side springs like the Carpet Knife. The Rev 3 uses damper tubes where as the L3 has damper discs.

thanks odpurple...

do you have any comments on the handling of these cars which utilize the side springs like as compared to the T-Bar. :cool:

Although i have probably stated this over 100 times let me explain the difference between the carpet knife and rev. 3. the rev. 3 has the old style front end which works better on carpet and is much more consistant. It also has a much better roll center, the CRC's is way to high and you need to get the speedmerchant style side links (which are also much better, since they are adjustable, dont readjust in a hit, and are much more precise), and also the knife has too much machining in the back part of the chassis so it flexes exactly where it shouldnt.

the crc 6 uses damper tubes just like the rev. 3 and carper knife, but has a t-bar (the l3 uses disks, however in the picture of that car it showed it had damper tubes, which you can convert to, however its a pain, and yes tubes are much better than disks).

Does anyone make bumpers for the RC12L3?

M just a newbie at 1/12 and the bariers at our local carpet track are PVC Pipes which will make the tires wiggle if hit.

I made one but maybe someone makes them since I do not like my color?

Thanks.

Goto http://www.teamcrc.com/
and order their Kydex front bumper... it will fit right on, maybe just drill 2 holes and countersink them.......

Here's a pic of it......

Highwayman-
I have a 12L3 and a Rev 3 (and a Carpet Knife too, for that matter) and I can't say that the t bar car handles differently than the spring car. The set up is quite different, but the same principles apply...stiffer for carpet, softer for asphalt or low bite. Most guys like the spring cars better for carpet but where I race I've seen both used successfully for both carpet and asphalt. Like other people have said-it's the set up and the driver more than the type of car.

Lem2-
CRC makes a kydex bumper for the Carpet Knife that looks almost like the one you made (it's black). If it doesn't fit exactly I bet you could make it work.

Confession;

I have been through about 6 or so bumpers on my carpet knife. I am getting better, but when I first got the car, the bumper would only last 1 or 2 races. It DID save many tires and wheels. One time I was racing on road, did my best lap times ever, I had broken off 1/2 of the bumper. I ran anyhow cause it was the main. I hit a board and sheared off the front axel on the side the bumper was missing. The thing saves me a lot of wheels and other front end parts. A great investment for $4.99. Tires are $20.00 a pair, I couldn't tell you how many wheels or tires I would have trashed. I was even thinking of putting 2 together, but my driving has improved a lot. I do keep a spare on hand. I have worn out 2 sets of tires from new without ever truing them or chunking them mostly because of the bumper.
