Default WGT vs RCGT?

Im getting into on road now and im trying to decide which to go with RCGT or WGT. My track is supporting WGT but it hasnt taken off yet here. In NE florida. but there isnt any RCGT going on really either. im just looking for something to hone my driving skills when im not on the off road coarse.

rcgt is dead now.
wgt is fun but there are not a lot of people.
tc or TA would be the way to go.

They are radically different cars as far as chassis are concerned. I don't run WGT but I would like to try it it just isn't popular in my area, RCGT is still a pretty solid class and the racing is usually really close.

This may be a stupid question but what is your local track supporting? I would be asking them what class is the most popular rather than ask a bunch of people who have no clue what your track is racing.

OK, that being said, RCGT is simply another touring car class with spec tires/wheels and bodies that do not look like a Stratus or Mazda. It is very similar to VTA which is another spec class using spec tires/wheels, bodies and power systems.

WGT is based on 1/12 pan car chassis and is rear wheel drive, it is also a spec class with spec tires, bodies and motors. However, it is so much more fun to drive than a TC and almost maintenance free. If your track has a class for these I wouldn't hesitate to join in. WGT is a little less expensive than TC but you may need to get 1 cell Lipo and brushless equipment. You will learn more about throttle control rather than point and shoot 4wd TC cars.

TA is Vintage Trans Am. The class specs tires, body (60's/early 70's Cudas, Mustangs, and Camaros) and motor/battery combinations. These items are added to any 4wd Touring car chassis to complete the package. The class is designed around the concept of keeping all of the cars relatively close in overall speed, so that driving and setup skill dictate final outcomes instead of one's racing budget.

RCGT is similar in concept to VTA, but with fewer restrictions. You have to run a spec tire, and bodies have to be REALISTIC representations of an actual production vehicle. This class also features more powerful motor/battery combinations with fewer restrictions on ESCs and motors. World GT is different in that the class is based around 2wd 1/10th scale pan car platforms, uses a spec foam tire, and sports car bodies. The class uses a 13.5 BL motor, and requires the use of a 1S LiPo battery pack. I find the WGT cars to be the easiest to drive of all R/C race cars, but both classes are fun - see which one is more popular in your area, build a car and have fun...

My local track is fairly new and they are still trying to build up on road racing. WGT is what they are promoting so that is what i most likely will do. The Off raod at my track is just so popular no one wants to run on road. I'm trying to everyone to do both

Not all WGT run spec tires- we don't here in florida. (Purple fronts and pink rear).Go to Superior Hobbies club race (this Sunday) or the state series races.
The RCGT class is just another touring car with specific bodies and tires. It still requires lots of work to set it up and keep running. While pans cars like the WGT is much easier to set-up and run.I would also check out the different brands out there. Many of the parts are interchangeble. Good luck-There are 3-4 in NE Fla.

RCGT is far from dead in FL. In fact, I'd say we have more entries in the RCGT points series than our state series is getting in WGT on a regular basis. We had 4 heats of RCGT at the season opener (2 for sportsman, 2 for expert).

We know about it, it's just 5 hours away!

Most of FL's onroad electric racing is centered in Tampa, Orlando, and Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach.
