Default IS MY TEKIN RS FRIED????

I am not sure if anyone out there will actually admit to doing this, but I sure did and I hope I got lucky. To make a long story short I plugged the red wire from the esc into the hole in the battery where the black wire should go. I heard a pop sound, saw smoke come from the ESC and cussing from my mouth. I hooked it back up again (this time correctly), said a prayer and it worked. Even though it initially worked, is my ESC now damaged? I didn't actually drive the car on the ground, just ran the motor and steering. Thoughts? Experiences? Much thanks.

If you heard a pop and saw smoke then something most likely was damaged. How much will that affect the operation? Hard to say until you put it through a few actual runs. If in doubt send it in to Tekin, everyone I've talked to says they have excellent customer service.

It has been pass the 90 day window. If it is fried wouldn't it not work at all?

ok, the quick and dirty. If you let the smoke out of an ESC its dead, or at least won't operate as per designed. Send it back.

You might have just popped the cap. Try replacing that first.

Chances are you have fried some of the FETs inside. If that is the case it will still work but not as well as before, and may die completely at any time. It really does need to go back to Tekin to be checked over, their service really is good. If you are unsure give them a ring. The number and returns procedure are on their web site in the Service section.

You can better contact Tekin and ask them to help.
They will send you a RA# and you can send it to them for repair.
You have 120 days so don't wait to long.

There is a Tekin topic. you can post there also your problems.

How do I know if I popped the cap off? Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will run it until it dies then send it back. Thanks again.

When some hot wizz is oozing out with some funky smell you know you poped your cap.

I popped my cap twice and did the polarity mix up as well. So far the esc is still working but no idea if some fets would be destroyd in the proces.

Probably it should be checked out after my next race just to be sure.

I wouldn't recommend that!

If you send it now, it may be fixed for free or at a very small charge to you.
But if you run it until it dies, you have done more damage and will prob. have to pay for the complete repair yourself.

I would say send it in ASAP and you will have it back in a few weeks with no worries!

It did look like stuff was oozing out......I thought I was seeing things and just thought it was smoke, but what you described is exactly what it was. Does it matter if the power switch was turned to off? Will it do any good to open the ESC up? You popped your cap twice and how long have you ran it since? How can you pop your cap twice....once it is popped isn't it popped and can't be popped again?

I know I am just delaying the inevitable..........thanks for the replies.

i popped another cap i solderd on after the first. (solderd the cap wrong, minus to plus and vice versa). The switch was off but when connecting the esc to the battery the cap popped.

I have my rs pro now roughly 1,5 years. The first capacitor (the tekin 330uf) popped already after a few times of racing cause i ran a 4.5t brushless on 2s lipo. The cap didn't like that.

If it still works you're VERY lucky and just blew the cap. The cap WILL NOT tolerate a reverse hook up at all. Usually neither does the RS but if you caught it quick enough you're lucky.

If it works, just put another cap on it and thank the rc gods.

You see, all electronic speedos are built with smoke and magic.

The magic is used to bind the smoke inside the speedo, we really do not know how they work, but if you do let the smoke out of the speedo, it normally doesn't work anymore.

They are like angry demons...

Tekin uses some pretty pissed off ones too...

Mine blows up tires all the time. And occasionally it goes so fast that I break parts of my car.
