Default 1/10th Touring - Car Build Suggestions

I just wanted to reach out to the pro's and see what their thoughts are on this. I am interested in putting together a on road electric 1/10th scale, but am not sure what I should get. My question to you all is ...

If you had about $1200 to spend on a onroad car, what would your build look like? I am interested in running in the stock 1/10th class. Please keep in mind this dollar figure is specifically for the: Car / Motor / ESC / Servo / Body / Tires / Suspension

The Radio / Receiver / Batteries are all going to be out of different funds.

Ideas ?

Kind of .. its more of a .. what have you built that you like? what would you change with your current build? what do you wish you could build?

The figure above would almost put a decent car on the track (assuming everything is bought new). With a few things S/H you might squeeze in a few spares as well. Going cheaper on a few things (servo/motor/esc) might save some further pennies.

So my answer is the car you'd build would look like kit stock.

It is common wisdom to go with whatever you can get parts for easily and in a hurry if need be.

PS. I realised you're asking the pros, so nevermind.

I'll answer your question.

TOP Photon $380
Tekin RS $160
Trinity Duo2 $80
Futaba 9551 $85
LTC-R body $28
Tires depend on track.

That leaves you with about $500 to buy parts and accessories.

I would choose the same car and speedo.
Motor DUO 2 or Tekin
Savox
ans R9-R

What i am debating is:

Car: XRA300015 - XRAY T3 - EU Rubber-Spec Competition 1/10 Electric Touring Car

Motor: TEKTT2252 - Tekin Redline Sensored Brushless Motor (13.5T)

ESC: Tekin RS Pro Sensored Brushless ESC

Servo: JRPSZ9100S - JR Z9100S Digital Ultra Hi-Speed Surface Servo (Metal Gear)

If you're planning on running stock, you want a 17.5 motor, not a 13.5. The fastest motors over the past two years have been the Trinity/Epic Duo1 / Duo2 series (re-labeled by various motor tuners).

The 9100S is an awesome servo. Not as light as others, but very fast and durable. The Futaba 9551 is well liked, too.

Most races in the US have been running the Jaco Blue as the spec tire.

Body wise, Mazdaspeed 6 or LTC-R are good middle of the road bodies. The R9-R is a little more aggressive/twitchy.

The Xray is a solid choice, as are the Corally and TOP chassis. Find out what other local drivers are running so you can get setup advice locally. Most local hobby shops don't carry parts for any of these cars (unless they also have a track), so you're left with mail order/Internet for most parts.

True, but to use its speed you need a serious radio (a DX3S as suggested above is not up to the job).

As for weight, well, just remember the JR is the fastest and the torqueyest on the market right now.

I have a DX3r right now .. and plan on using the Spektrum DSM2 micro receiver

That should support the speed if i remember correctly

You do NOT need a Tekin RS Pro. Get the Tekin RS. You would not be able to tell the difference in performance between them. You only need the Pro if you are planing to run lower than a 6.5 motor.

There are a few threads in this forum that have discussed this thoroughly.

Can't go wrong with an Xray. I had an '008 and it's still probably the best overall car I have owned.

Tekin motors are good...I didn't have luck with my 17.5's I've owned but that was when they first came out. I may try one more.

I need to upgrade my old S9550...I may have to look at the Z9100S.

I'm very pleased with the size and performance of my JR DS3421.
