my friend was buying a pinion gear and they asked him how much pitch he wanted what does the pitch mean ?

pitch is the spacing between each teeth(correct me if wrong). Theres 48 pitch and 68pitch. 48 is easier to mesh without stripping a spur. On other hand 68pitch is more efficient and quieter IMO. But if your not good at meshing you can easily go through many spurs.

One other point is that 4 pitch gears have a bigger selection og gear choices compared to the 48 pitch. The more teeth the more subtle the gear changes you can make. If your a serious racer at all dont waste the money buying 48 pitch gears. Youll switch to 64 eventually so buy gears you will use for a long time. Now if your running offroad then 48 is alot more durable and able to withstand all the abuse moreso than the 64 pitch.

stick to 48 pitch. you WILL break 64 pitch unless u are basically a perfect driver. a hard head on collision and youll strip your 64 pitch gears and you have to DNF your race cause u cant go on..
ive seen it happen alot
