R/C Tech LIVE from the 2004 ROAR Carpet Nationals @ The Gate in Cleveland, OH

Hi all,

For the remainder of the week I'll be bringing everybody live coverage of the 2004 ROAR Carpet Nationals from Cleveland, Ohio. As always there will be a full set of race pages, in addition to some new stuff that I'm going to try, including a semi-live webcam. I'll have more details on that as the week progresses.

BIG thanks to Xtreme R/C magazine, to Hurricane Motorsports, and to Team br00d and Avid R/C for helping me out with this event. Make sure to pick up a copy of XRC each month to read my crazy articles...

The track opens tomorrow at 7 AM and practice begins an hour later; visit www.clevelandcarpetracing.com for up-to-date entry lists and other information for this year's race. Everything looks great at the track and it's an insanely technical layout. Should be a great week.

Schedule:

Wednesday: Practice
Thursday: Practice
Friday: 2 Rounds
Saturday: 2 Rounds, Lower Mains
Sunday: Triple A Mains

The race uses qualifying points to seed the mains, just like last year.

More info to come. As always, enjoy the coverage from R/C Tech!

Shane,

Thank you in advance for the great coverage.

As always great articles in the latest issue of XRC.

Try to spend some quality time with your car as well.

Good Luck.

RCGaryK 03-24-2004 09:43 AM

Shane, what time is qualifying starting on Friday? I need to get my drive time down to be there in time. I thought there was some practice on Friday along with 2 heats. Also, hows the wireless internet setup working?

TimPotter 03-24-2004 10:48 AM

Good luck to all the Florida Boys.

Alex Lopez, Paul Wynn, Kevin Mitchell, Furman, Mike A, and anyone else I forgot.

I realize Im not futureal, but according to the schedule, qualifying starts at 11 AM tomorrow and I think 9 AM Friday (anyone that is actually there can correct me if Im wrong)

David Joor 03-24-2004 11:15 AM

There is no qualifying tommorow, it is open practice and Friday should be controlled practice followed by 2 rounds of qualifying.

Matt Francis 03-24-2004 11:27 AM

We have a connection here, TRACKSIDE! Shane will be posting updates I am sure, but I will try to add some special "flava" of my own!

Uhhhh, guys, someone should tell Matt the race is at The Gate, not Trackside! He's 335 miles too far west! :weird:

Qualifying starts at Friday @ 11am? Man, maybe I should leave tomorrow instead.....

Matt Francis 03-24-2004 03:48 PM

Track already has tons of grip. More steering than most rugs I have ran on. The normal expected people are fast with nobody stand out fast yet. THis is my first time to this track, so I cannot compare it to the Indoor Champs practice track, but I can say that it is a very nice place, big track, but as usual I have one complaint........PARAGON! This stuff should be BANNED from racing!!!!

Lonestar 03-24-2004 03:56 PM

Hey Matt,

good luck from switzerland, from a fellow Biff Racing Team member ;) !!!

Later,
Paul

Chris08527 03-24-2004 03:56 PM

Matt,

why are you anti-traction compound???

Chris08527

Lonestar 03-24-2004 03:58 PM

Joor,

go kick some booty too! And be careful to californian chicken fried steaks, you never know what they're made of :D

Later,
Paul

pro3racer 03-24-2004 04:06 PM

hes not against traction compound, just the paragon type, that stuff gets you higher than aeroplane, lol. Then the headache afterwards isn't the best either, i hate that stuff too.

gearless 03-24-2004 04:26 PM

Killing me softly .....

:D

I heard a rumor about a "no smell" Parigon coming soon!!!!!
Matt,do me a favor, smack Ray Darroch in the back of the head for me.Tell him that's from "B*tch". Thanks.

EddieO 03-24-2004 05:15 PM

The new odorless paragon is already out.....one of the local shop owners had some at regionals. We didn't get to use it, but it was pretty much odorless. It still had a slight smell, but wasn't a super strong wintergreen.....

Later EddieO
