R/C Tech LIVE from the 2004 ROAR Carpet Nationals
#661

I say take it all the way to the local level. Novice and maybe intermediate level classes run 27 turn stock, all others run 19 turn. Simple as that. ROAR etc. 19 turn only. There's not a driver at the nat's that can't handle a 19 turn so why hamper them with that much slower of a motor? I haven't put a stock motor in any of my cars in probably close to a year. It's boring to me.

i live in central jersey and at our local track we run the 19t class, and it seems almost every other track around runs stock and mod. and i think it keeps people away from our place cause they dont want to buy a new motor to run in the 19t class, i think all we the racers should kind of decide what we run, personaly i would like to see a stock class, 19t, and 10t limit mod classes everywhere to get rid of the problems of well "what do they run at the place?"
just my 2 cents.

THe reason you see all these guys in stock is that now manufacturers have realized that stock wins sell cars. A couple years ago they really didn't want to sponsor stock racers except younger kids with potential. Now Xray has Schreven, Lopez etc. racing, Losi has Flack and Darroch if I'm correct. Associated I'm not sure about, but they sell a ton anyway as their car is perceived by many to be the best in stock racing.

i think stock is prob the most competative class at the Club level races, espically during the indoor season when many of the local club tracks are small and tight

Yup-as soon as you land a big time sponsorship-unless your well grounded as a person-your gonna change somewhat and people will start to envy you and even dislike you.
Now-small sponsorships I am not talking about-I mean when you get picked up by Reedy or trinity-stuff like that.
But thats just my opnion.

How about this food for thaught.
Stock motors should be run with rubber tires,
19t spec motors should be run with foam,
Mod. motors should be run with foam.
that way you would have the following classes that can be run locally or at a National event. The classes would be as follows;
Sportsman/Novice Stock-Rubber for the true beginners
Stock-Rubber
19t Spec - Foam (takes place of Stock foam)
Mod-Foam
Brushless - Foam (could be a good new class to get brushless going)
Many people don't want to run foam but still want to go to a National event so if all the Local tracks were consistant with what they run everyone would be prepared for a National event without relearning their car.
Just my 2 cents

at my local club track we run the 19t with rubber and nobody has any traction issues
i dont like to make foams for the simple reason of cost, cutting the tires and the god awful chunk after your first run
stock/19t rubber tires and mod foam

Doug57013 you can buy the same cells that we race with from Hurricane motorsports and for stock racing it was the biggest class at the Nats it was like 125 entrys and the top 40 were very fast the top 30 all hit 24 laps at one point.....The fastest run was like a 24/5:02or03....... 99.9% is driver......
