Unhappy

oh, cole, if i dont' need a 20 amp discharge, i should store them

when i bring them out again then
equalize-->condition--->charge full?

(just making sure i will treat my cells right the next time)

still wondering, which would would you guys pick? peak surikarn edition or the hara from team orion?

or at least suggest me a website that sells these motors and are INSTOCK?

even if i have good cells, no motor to use them... then.... i am still stuck in a rut....

Not excatly; The voltage raises, whil the pack is unloaded. This allows the discharger to take out some extra mAH, before it cut off again.

Precisely.

Well, each battery pack consists of a number of cells (individual little batteries if you will). Most commonly six.

Because of each cell's difference in capacity, IR, and other things, when u dump your pack, there maybe some power left in some cells where as other ones may already be well drained.

An equalizer, will just discharge each cell individually to ensure that all your cells are discharged to the same level.

It helps preserve the capacity of the pack as a whole and improves punch. At least that's what I have heard but like my name, I am just a newb, so don't quote me on these things. cause that's just from what I heard, and felt on my own car after using the equalizer.

Anybody got the INDI 16x3v6? I just got one and so far I love it ; the only thing is , is that the seconds counter is WAAYYY off, showing me something like 1450s <-----

I think I'm going to contact Integy about this and see what gives.
ALL in ALL, A GREAT CHARGER THOUGH

The charger does pause for a couple of seconds every minute, it's normal, don't worry!

I have the 16x5v6 and I love it. If it helps anyone, this is what i do with my packs:
1) After a race/run i discharge the pack at 20A down to 0.8v/cell (not adjustable, oh well)
2) The next day after the race, I put the packs on my Real Time tray and bring all the cells down to 0.05v. Then I partial charge them at 30% to store them until the next race.
3) Two days before the race, I cycle the packs once and tray them again.
4) Before race day I charge them back up @6A with 5mv/cell detect. 5-10 min before I race the pack, I use the boost function on the pack.

Disclaimer (): I'm not saying this is the way to do things, just how I do things.

Micros_rocks:

I would definately not cycle the batts like this (okay, maybe if they have been stored for 3 months...)

A pack have a limited number of charges / discharges. Some people only count on 40 good runs... So cycling like this, means you only have half charges on the track....

You'll get better performance, if you charge just before the race, instead of charging at home and then boosting.

Also, I wouldnt equalize them below 0,9 volt pr. cell.

Is an equalizer ABSOUTLELY necessary?? Will it dramatically improve battery punch and life or is it not that needed with the 16x5v6. How much does a good one cost? Thanks

It will improve punch and it'll also ensure that the batteries last longer. A guy at our club recently got a equalizer. He's the kind of that always buy the best, he can get. He got matched Orion cells - he was quite surprised with the equalizer...

Some of the best are the Rayspeed and the Indi SP Saddle Relay Cut-off Discharger 5A . The Novak is also good, but too expensive at my opinion, compared with the before mentioned; Basically, they do the same.

For budget guys like me, the Robitronic is very good: AUto cut off at 0,8 volt, 1 amp discharge rate and control LED's to ensure all batteries have contact. The price is 30 euro. I dont think Robitronic is represented on the US market, but you can either order it from Europe or find something similar elsewhere.

Cole: how long should i wait after i remove the batteries from my car before I discharge at 20amps?

That's the thing i dislike about the rayspeed, I have no clue if the contact is any good between the eqaulizer and the cells. Trying to draw 5A out of a "pin head"... is still not a great thing to do if the pack is like half full.

bballer: A rayspeed will cost u at least a good $60 USD. (That's about how much I got mine anyway)

Its not ABSOLUTELY necessary. If u use crappy cells, don't bother. But if u ever plan to get some good cells, get a equalizer tray first. (I made that mistake, and I turned my good cells into crap now).

Discharger trays are fun. Its almost like a youth tonic to old cells and vitamins to a new one. It just keeps everything healthy.

I've tried it on a old pack of Sanyo 2000 NiCd, which had not been equalized for approx 2 years. The pack waked up and was fun to use. It still was a cheap pack, but it was better than anytime before.

Each time I get a new pack, I equalize it before tyhe first charge. It works.
